Powering your home during power outages

When I first moved to Washington there was a huge ice and wind storm in the Pacific Northwest. Power was out in several states. Being in a rural area our house had no power for three weeks and intermittent power for another six weeks. I installed a 240V outlet at the panel, shut off the main...

    Removing Foam from Bench Seats

This stuff isn’t cheap but, it works. Scented drier sheets also repel mice. I also place some sticky traps and bait around the shop. The Camaro which is in storage all winter has a bag of rodent repellent in the back seat and another in the trunk. The mice get into the car through a couple...

    Removing Foam from Bench Seats

You could replace the foam and cap off the bottom of the seats with aluminum sheet to keep the mice out.

    Upgrade 9.9 suzuki motor

Thanks for the tip on Turningpoint. I definitely saw a bigger rpm drop than expected when going from the 9” pitch Suzuki prop to 10” Solas. It would be interesting to try the same prop size in both brands.

    Upgrade 9.9 suzuki motor

No argument from me. So who is a good prop mfg in the 9.9 to 30 range?

    Upgrade 9.9 suzuki motor

I went up an inch in pitch from the stock 9.9 prop but, I’m sure that will vary will the application. Here’s my notes from testing with a new bare bones Lowe 1448M: Stock 9.9 prop. 9.25 x 9”: 4111-093-09A. 23mph at approximately 3/4 throttle 6350 rpm. Hitting rev limiter. Solas Amita 3 props...

Thanks for sharing. It’s about time they get a taste of their own medicine!

Great prices on Bluetooth enabled batteries

I read one report that the batteries were switched into overload. That could be accomplished with code or minimal hardware changes. Reminds me of a Startrek communicator going into overload. Or was that just the phaser overload?

Great prices on Bluetooth enabled batteries

I’m seeing some great pricing on LiFe PO batteries with BT enabled BMS. This makes me wonder if sales are down after the recent pager attacks. Is anyone concerned that their BT enabled batteries could be a vulnerablity?

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

I wonder if any company is manufacturing 100% of the components that are part of the final product. - It really isn’t feasible for high tech.

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

It would be very difficult to buy anything electronic that doesn’t have components that are mostly sourced from APAC. Could you imagine what a smart phone would cost if it were built in the US? I have a hard time believing the Humminbirds are manufactured in the US. Maybe final assembly and...

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

I think we taught the electronics industry to China quite well. The junky stuff is the low tech. I bought some welding clamps last winter that were supposed to hold two piece parts square to each other. Unfortunately the four clamps varied from 92 to 95 degrees. At least Amazon is good about...

    1999 Crestliner Project

I think a professional welder could weld it quick enough to minimize on heat. Aluminum sinks the heat away quickly anyway. Perhaps a little melting but, I doubt if it would catch fire.

    1999 Crestliner Project

I wouldn’t hesitate to weld them but, I have the equipment to do so. I actually need to do some welding on my North River Mariner to repair damage from some poor rigging by the previous owner. The fuel tank is coming out of this boat first but, it’s easy to remove. I’m not sure what it...

New live sonar that doesn't reqired a FF

A good innovation from China. Maybe US sonar suppliers will wake up and become more competitive. If the Humminbird product development team isn’t nervous, they should be. As I type this note on an iPad I think it’s a great idea. It would be hard to send this note from a Helix 9 so I’m...
