    9.9hp Motor Hoarder

Sounds like a good deal if that’s what you want. On the flip side I think fuel injection was the best thing that happened to outboards. Not trying to talk you out of it but, I personally would not buy an outboard that’s been setting for 30 years.

    Aluminum Versus Stainlees Steel?

Not if the 5 extra horsepower adds 50 pounds or so.

    Repower

Modern 20s are typically the same powerhead as a 9.9. The 25 is a larger powerhead which is often common to the 30 hp models. There is probably some variation between manufacturers. So the 20hp outboards have a great power to weight ratio.

Best way to charge and maintain batteries?

Lead acid batteries should be charged prior to storage. With LiFe PO batteries it’s a different story, they prefer storage about half charged then topped off before use. Some chargers have a mode for a storage charge. Personally I don’t worry about it too much with exception of doing a...

Best way to charge and maintain batteries?

With lead acid deep cycle I’ve done both but, it does really boils down to the charger. A modern charger will do a bulk charge, a float charge in two or three steps. I left one of these plugged in for the winter while my boat was in storage one winter. The same boat and chargers, fast...

    Aluminum Versus Stainlees Steel?

I wasn’t sure if you enjoy vintage tools or they or making a come-back. My Dad had one but, I’m not sure what happened to it when we cleaned out their last house.

    Aluminum Versus Stainlees Steel?

Oh. I haven’t seen one of those in fifty years.

    Aluminum Versus Stainlees Steel?

Some anti-seize goes a long way. I recently had the same issue on a boat that I recently bought. Cheap stainless self tapping screws and even a couple of zinc plated screws holding the front seat pedestals. Like LDUBS said, an impact wrench works well for removal. It got everything but the...

    Howdy from East Texas

The shark boat is so ugly that it’s cute. If that makes any sense.

    Yesterday's computer mess

I was a computer science major in college. Our advanced assembly language professor made one thing very clear, “If you crash my computer you will fail.” Not bragging but, I got an “A” while about 30 out of 35 students failed the course. If these numbers are consistent across the industry there...

    Spark Plugs Getting Scarce

They were a few years ago. In my line of work I was working with some sparkplug manufacturers in the Midwest for a while.

Anyone ever use a "Tiny Tach"?

I think they work well for most people that follow the instructions. Keep in mind that the wire wrapped around spark plug wire is picking up the spark pulse through induction. Wrap it in a clear area were it is not touching another plug wire. Also, wake sure to get a good ground for the other lead.

    Spark Plugs Getting Scarce

Interesting. My old Evinrude 115 has a misfire that has been hard to track down. The plugs were hard to find for a while, then I found some on line. Makes me wonder if I can trust the plugs.

    Trolling motor sideways install

Perhaps you can build a mount for the motor to raise it above the top of the lights. Another point on side mounting is that it may interfere with docking on that side of the boat.

    Outboard pre-start warm up… Harmful?

I started my 115 Evinrude out of water by mistake but, I’d never do this intentionally.

    Graph mount

I have a 10” long Ram mount at the bow and it will slowly fold over if you leave it up when moving fast. This one has a 7” Helix on it. I typically don’t leave it on while trailering. When I do leave it on for trailering short distances the cover is on the Helix and it’s folded flat against...
