    Drafting Guy`s Over 60

To prove your point (Language warning for link) The 77th infantry division in WWII were all "old" by military standards. They put a bunch guys my age (30-40) into a division and then set them loose on the Japanese. Lets just say the old guys had a much better time than their enemies...

    Censorship

And that's the flip side to this. I don't really understand why Still Afloat chose to post publicly, instead of trying to handle it privately, either. This thread stands as a case study for what politics can do to a forum. The situation was handled less than optimally, to varying degrees, by...

    Censorship

I think the biggest frustration was that it was an unwritten rule. Those of us that weren't around in the old days didn't know that anything remotely political was taboo. I wouldn't personally post anything political here because I've seen what it does to a forum. However, it would have been...

    Censorship

I’m not that invested yet. I think the post needed to be addressed (if for no other reason than that it should have been posted in a different area) but I don’t agree with how it was handled. I have to say though that canoe’s silence is defining at this point.

    Censorship

That would have been my approach as well. My best guess is that canoe was worried about things spiraling out of control given the current US political climate and just dropped the hammer as a knee jerk. A better approach would have been to update the TOS after the post that FuzzyGrub mentioned...

    Censorship

Still feels kind of like a ham fisted reaction. I'm a bit surprised that Canoe hasn't jumped in yet with a more in-depth explanation.

    1999 Crestliner Project

That's interesting. I figured the OTF would darken the wood more than it apparently does.

    Censorship

@LDUBS @Still Afloat Really hate to see you guys leave. I've learned a lot from both of you over the last several months. Out of curiosity, why was the locked thread posted in the Boat House instead of in the Watering Hole? Seems like the Watering Hole would have been more appropriate for that...

    Bow Mounted trolling motor

Those quick detach mounts are the bees' knees. My folks have one on their 'toon. It's so nice to be able to take it off if we are just wanting to hang out on the lake or take the kiddos out tubing.

    LDUBS OK?

You have it right. It's a toddler sized spin cast combo designed for use in tight spaces (like a boat dock). Definitely not ideal for being on the open water or casting any distance. I do good to get 20-30ft out of it with a casting weight.

    LDUBS OK?

I bought my toddler one earlier this year because it was cheaper than buying one of the Disney character combos. It's the right size and I figure it will last just as long, or longer than the Disney ones. Her idea of fishing is dropping a casting lure in the water and reeling it up though. Out...

    LDUBS OK?

Probably wouldn't want to be caught in possession of a Dock Demon either.

    New project

I'd start with a leak test. I did mine at the local lake. I put it in the water up against the shore (just deep enough that I could stand in it without the boat touching bottom), climbed in, and watched for water coming in. If you have a pool, you could probably do it that way, but I didn't want...

Your first TinBoat. Post you pictures.

First one was a 10' John that Dad got as a birthday present when I was a kid. We put a 3hp Merc knock off on it and ran it around for years. I'm currently working on the first one that I'll officially own (as time and funds allow). This one is a 16' MonArk that I'm putting a 15hp Johnson on. See...

Powering your home during power outages

That's one of those things that make you go: "Now why didn't I think of that". Super simple design, easy to produce, and in a specialized field... Somebody is making a killing off of that patent.

Powering your home during power outages

I’d like to say that about myself. However, I’m the guy that would hit a big red “DO NOT TOUCH” button just to see what happened. On the plus side (maybe), that’s how I found myself in the middle of a tin boat rebuild and working on a motor that is a year older than I am.

Powering your home during power outages

Done by someone with the proper skills and knowledge, they are reasonably safe. Problems start when your average person sees it and decides that it’s a good idea.

Powering your home during power outages

The automatic switch gears have come along way and I believe it is standard practice to install one with a new generator/solar now. I know when I worked for the co-op, we required them on all new installs. I know several people that have a double male extension cord to backdoor their generator...

Powering your home during power outages

I worked for the local power co-op for a number of years. You’d be surprised at what your “average” person doesn’t know. I got called multiple times for an outage in one room of a house. Every time, all of the other rooms in the house had power and meter read hot but the customer was convinced...

Powering your home during power outages

If the fuse over your transformer is still good, it will try to feed the entire primary circuit. Your house just became the substation until something (usually your generator) gives out.
