    Sea King

CR = Cruiser RB = Runabout U = Utility For what it's worth, your boat definitely looks like the Speed Queen equivalent. Sea King was the private badge for Montgomery Wards which contracted all their products from other vendors (as did all catalog and hardware stores). Starcraft and...

Can someone help me with identifying the year on my lone star corvette I’ve looked all over and cannot find any numbers on it

This era of numbers on the LS open boats can usually be found on the interior, way up under the gunnel. Typically upside down, in the stern or bow. That being said, they're not always easy to decode. They certainly help with registration, though, as they are unique numbers. Also, in my...

Which OMC tank for my Johnson motor?

Any 1976 OMC product has a fuel pump. It uses a single line tank with standard OMC fittings. It does not use a dual-line, pressurized tank. (which, btw, the second line is not for venting, but for pressurizing)

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

Fair point. Great Lakes are a different kettle of fish than my TVA reservoirs.

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

The Deep C is rated 60hp and designed for the twins. 15ft with 5ft of beam. Nearly 900 lbs of weight capacity. (those Olivers are 125 each. That leaves 650lbs for the rest of the boat)

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

true story. ...and if one was to actually hit the Deep C's 60hp rating in 1956, twins were the only way to do it. lol

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

Not sure how it's going to work out, really. I suspect that duals will respond traditionally to diameter and pitch. However, in some circles, dual motors must have counter-rotating props, no matter the diameter and pitch. But historically, OMC and Merc were running duals without...

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

For the most part, I suspect you're simply dealing with the downfalls of a 15" transom. In my experience, shutting things down too quickly will often get an uninvited following wave, too. lol The Aqueduct Transom does a nice job of mitigating that whole scenario, in my opinion. I have a few...

1950s Alumacraft Deep C Upper Transom Drains

Very odd scenario. I also have a Deep C and have had no experiences of that nature. The boat is rated 60hp and designed to accept twins. It also has an aft bench originally designed for a seatback - implying family seating. All equating to a design meant to accept some rearward weight. (it...

1957 AlumaCraft Deep C boat serial number location ?

Hey new2boats....Your Deep C is a 1956. Pretty low production number. I own #465, for what it's worth. The two of them could have been on the floor in the same week. lol They made 1146 units in 1956 and a total of 2522 units through 1960. **BUT...there's a caveat.. Those numbers represent...

My next boat project...An old 1959 Starcraft Constellation

hey jdreed, The windshield brackets shown on DanOStarcraft's boat are a Taylor Made product. ...as are a majority of the windshields in this era. Two styles of brackets were available: a through-bolt and an external mount as pictured. Both are frequent ebay items. They move pretty quickly...

She's a looker! Quality trailer, too. I like me some Gator trailers. The factory parking dolly isn't a commonly found feature.

Pressure treated wood used for floor deck!!!

The danger of treated wood is in the treatment. All treated woods use a metal as a preservative...copper, zinc, arsenic, etc. Dissimilar metals (contact with the boat's aluminum) lead to galvanic corrosion. It happens at different rates due to the presence/absence of an electrolyte...

1966 MirroCraft 12’ “car top” boat

1972 is when the Federal HIN program began. Late '72 and forward, all manufacturers were required to permanently attach a 12-digit HIN plate to the transom configured in a Coast Guard format. Factory model/serial numbers were always present, however. Most brands, anyway. Some were consistent...

Old Boat ID - Sports Kraft?

100% agree with Sport Kraft. However, at 18ft, I would wager Continental. It appears the cabin has been shortened. edit: Hmmm....cruising around the Sport Kraft cruisers, it appears 18ft could apply to several models. The Continental can measure 18 without the motor extension, the Habana...

    Matte finish on aluminum?

For what it's worth, I have vintage factory brochures from both Alumacraft and Feather Craft that recommends the maintanance of their finishes with regular steel wool by hand. Personally, I don't like the idea of embedding micro pieces of dissimilar metals in the aluminum and have instead tried...

Help with Montgomery Ward Boat ID

For clarity, you have the make and the model. It is a Montgomery Ward, model 26147. You have the ID plate to prove it. I've found that printing a picture of that data plate helps things a little at the county clerks office. Even though the catalog boats were manufactured by other...
