What wood to use to replace transom?

FWIW my good friend owns a now 4th generation wooden boat business and they use nothing but TiteBond-III for gluing woods. They even tried them all, glueing togther scrap pieces and placing them in their steaming water tanks (used for bending woods), but the water wasn’t heated. The...

Question for Dale H re bilge pump

Johnson pumps are indeed the best, but you can also buy them under the ‘Marpac’ brand name, especially those that have the built-in non-moving electrical field switch that senses water. I won’t use anything else! IMHO You don’t need 1000 GPH pump for that size boat, just get a 600 GPH one...

    REALLY LOUD buzzing vibration

WATCH OUT for silicone use on tin boats! In some tubes, the curing agent used ATTACKS tin. I too would opt for a shim or other reinforcement to ‘prevent’ the piece or panel from humming.

Best way to brace middle of a shallow V hull 14ft-

I like LDubs idea, as you do need to bring something back in to strengthen the middle of the boat so it doesn’t ‘oil can’ and bend or collapse on you. FWIW I have also observed such damage even on fiberglass hulls, usually about 1/3 of the way back from the bow, if the middle of the boat was...

    Lund 14' ssv : hydrofoil?

I don't and here's why. First, many years ago I used to recommend the SE Sport 200, which is a full 'flat' hydrofoil wing design (meaning straight across from each other, or tips 180-degrees apart), although recognize that the top profile of the wing is shaped like an airplane wing, i.e...

Aluminum Boat: Transom Corner Braces Cracked

If cast, that could explain the crack, could be too brittle or not tempered properly after casting. Is it all the way through the material?

The ol' metal or plastic connectors were sized to push in a 'pin' that on the tank connector boss itself, like see photo.

    Confessions of a Total Doofus

Stalling after going down the idle from a high speed run can also be a sign that the mixture adjustment is set a too lean. Maybe open (counter-clockwise, needle balve screw) it up a 1/4 turn and try another high speed run to idle again, then maybe another 1/4 turn, but no more if you do not have...

    Extra led lighting….legal or not?

Here is the issue …each State’s boating navigation or safety rules can differ from the USCG or Federal rules (usually LESS prescriptive!), which are codified or promulgated (meaning ‘ruled into law’) via the US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Yet the USCG has the mandate to enforce ‘Federal’...
