    Not what I expected

How fast should a 7.5 push a 1232 with two 180lb guys? I couldn't get it to plane out and it would only run about 8mph up river and 13mph down. Tried the pin in several different holes with no real increase, a few things to note are that my cavitation plate is 2 inches low and it has a 3 blade...

    Cooling issues

Ok played with it some more today and found out some more strange things. With the foot off I squirted water in the water outlet and water came out in two places inside the gear housing. It comes out of the inlet tube and it also comes out someplace around the power head. I pulled the power head...

    Cooling issues

I have a 1974 7.5 Mercury I have the water pump working well, I can take the tube out of the drive shaft housing and stick it in the water pump and run it with a drill and it pumps great. I still am not getting a steady flow from my hole. It's flowing just intermittently in spirts. Where else...

    Concrete boat ramps

I have a trailer but you still have to pull the boat up to get in it and concrete is many times more abrasive than any log I have ever seen I am not necessarily jumping but powering over them. I am looking at steel flex now and it seems like a good idea.

    Concrete boat ramps

How do yall keep your tinboats off concrete boat ramps? I hate having mine grinding against concrete as thin as the hull is but today there was no where else to get in the boat because there were rocks on either side. Is there anything that could be applied to protect the hull from such...

    help with my merc 110

I kinda figured, I think the seal that seals around the tubing that runs up to the powerhead is leaking I am going to replace it and see if I can get some better flow.

    Jack Plate for shallower running

Hows this look for a home made jack plate, just mocking it up for now but it has the cav plate about an half inch above the bottom of the boat. One thing that bothers me is my transom seems kinda flimsy is there anyway I can brace it up some? Sorry about the picture quality took them with...

    help with my merc 110

When I get ready to replace that wire ill snap some pictures. Maybe someone can help us both with the cooling stream mine is kinda iffy as well, how hot should the water be coming out of it. On mine its gets so hot you almost can't put your hand under it.

    White sludge

This is a '74 7.5 Mercury and its not in the foot its in the shaft where the exhaust should be most of the time its at 1/2 throttle or less running in a small creek.

    White sludge

What would cause me to have white sludge inside my foot? Could it be a headgasket issue or nothing to worry about...

    Jack Plate for shallower running

10-4, I am going to start getting plans together for my jackplate. Yesterday I noticed a crack in my swivel bracket, I pushed on the prop while it was up and it broke and fell on the ground! Luckily a local guy had the parts to fix it and I got it fixed up this afternoon.

    Jack Plate for shallower running

Ok I understand what you are saying on my merc the pickup is in the bottom of the cavatation plate just above the prop, now in the creek I won't hardly ever get above 1/4 throttle because the motor is plenty powerful so water pickup won't be an issue but in the river or lake in might be...

    help with my merc 110

They can be replaced they have eyes on both ends, I have a 7.5 and they are pretty similar motors. I bought eyes and soldered them on then used heat shrink to seal the ends. Just take your time and pay attention to where each wire goes.

    Jack Plate for shallower running

I am curious if I can use a jack plate to get my outboard to run a little shallower, as it sits now the cavitation plate is 2 inches below the bottom of the boat. From what I have read for every 2 inches you move the motor back you can move it up one inch so if I were to make a jack plate that...

    Damaged gunwhales

I am going Sunday to pick up a cheap 1236 boat the issue is that it looks like a tree fell across the boat and bashed the gunwhales in on both sides. I am a welder and can readily weld aluminum but what is the best material to replace them with. Can you get some other sort of material to use my...
