    I hate Mondays!

What is this ice you speaketh of? I about busted my tail on some wet leaves and a hill tonight, but I do have to say, I was quite comfortable in my long sleeve t-shirt. Hey, it'll be easier to pick up your boat if you move south.... \:D/

Fisher 1860AW... New Boat -- New Construction

Bigwave, the BOM (bill of material) on Russ's boat was as follows: .090 5x10 - 1.75 sheets 4x8 - 1 sheet .125 5x10 - 1.75 sheets .063 5x10 - .375 sheet 1x1x.125 angle 25' - 1 stick I'm not going to publish any material prices, as I'm expecting an increase upon the first of the year (but...

    Recessed Trolling Motor Foot Pedal

My river boat has one, and I wouldn't have it any other way. A lot of the river guys in my area are running powerdrives with copilot (wireless key fob control), which is actually a great tool if you're fishing live bait in moving water, but but for those of us that prefer the cable steer...

    Oh God, its almost back!

Absolutely agree. I mean, why would anybody eat at Mcdonald's when Burger King makes a better burger? :LOL2:

Sometimes it's the little things that just drive you crazy.

You had enough people there - you should have just picked the boat up, turned it over, and shaken the part out....

8" Wheel and Tires - Replace with 12"?

Now, enough of the theoretical. If you are truly going 30 miles or so at a time (probably at lower speeds, with more stop and go, given the difference), the concern is much lesser than if you're taking longer trips, so in your case, I might be inclined to stick with the 8" tires. This will...

8" Wheel and Tires - Replace with 12"?

The problem with that logic is that the bearing doesn't give a flying flip about miles, but is more concerned about time. That is why revs are always counting in Revs per minute, and NOT revs per mile. To put it in perspective, lets take the bearings out of the picture, and pretend you have a...

24 volt system (For trolling motor)

Can't say for Motorguides, but Minn Kotas generally have 10 gauge leads coming out of the motor. Unfortunately, most of the factory wiring harnesses run 8 gauge bow to stern for the trolling motor circuit, though they really should be using 6 AWG.

size of trolling motor for your boat?

Motorguide. They merely rebadged a previous model (Thruster, I think - not entirely certain though). Bass pro doesn't make or arrange the manufacture of anything; they sell parts made by other companies under their own name. Many Motorguide parts will fit it.

MAKING A NEW JON BOAT SUPPORT RIB HELP?

Take that rib out, and install a new one using the same holes. I don't think you're done having problems with that one. A decent aluminum fabrication shop with a brake should be able to bend you a new hat section that matches the profile of the old one. If you do the removal and...

    1650 Sylvan Jet project

Thanks! Sq. tube was 1.5" by .125" 6061.

    What's it worth?

Prices are going to vary significantly based on location. In my area, $1500 for that boat would be a heck of a deal. I have a customer that is about to buy a new 1652, and I'd bet he'd probably be very happy to buy that for $2500 were it in this neck of the woods. I'd also say that my neck...

Are Motor mount holes a standard pattern?

On anything halfway modern (and by that, I'm talking mid 80s on), the bolt pattern IS standard on anything larger than the 'portable' size engines. In some cases, that pattern goes back to the early '60s, as BIA adopted the pattern that OMC started using way back when. In your case, it is...

    flotation pod question

No need for the foam. Be sure to weld in a drain bung (pipe thread half coupler), then pressure test at NO MORE THAN 2 PSI. Soapy water over all the weld seams will show if you have any leaks. If the transom has wood inside, or isn't a one piece integral aluminum setup (as one would see on...

    Welding Aluminum Jon boats

This is very true. That is if one even gets them to the point of 'holding.'

    Welding Aluminum Jon boats

Honestly, I think welding is the wrong route to head with this project. If you had the welding experience, and different equipment, it would be a different story, but trying to MIG weld aluminum with a 115v machine and no spool gun/push-pull gun is really an exercise in futility for...

    1650 Sylvan Jet project

Then, we fabricate/install the lid, and run the conduits. One goes forward for a future trolling motor plug, the other heads to the side of the boat for assorted accessories. Lastly, I installed a set of longer bunks, and new fenders. After And here is the finished rig.

    1650 Sylvan Jet project

Now, simply reinstall the stern seat pods. Customer then decided that we should go ahead and add in a flat floor for the fuel tank. A little brake work, and here we are. Fuel tank lid. This alone turns the back bench seat into a comfortable casting deck. Moving forward now, we install...

And the knee brace - slightly modified for new transom (16" tall instead of 10). CMC manual jackplate mounted. Customer provided this unit. It is rated for a 300hp V6, so we'll see if it holds up to the 25 jet. Sometimes you just have to push the engineering limits of a product...

    1650 Sylvan Jet project

We'll start now with the building of the new transom. Perimeter frame. Welded in bushings for engine/jackplate mounting bolts. Additional bracing as required for bolt on pods, stern handles, and other bolt on items. Flat bar in the middle is tapped for the knee brace. Dry fit. New...
