    Console

I think you could raise it 20 feet with almost no impact on balance of the boat. Think about the boat's center of mass. There is so much more hull, gas tanks, batteries, and other stuff at the bottom that the weight of the console is almost negligible. I added about 10 inches to mine to get...

    Attaching Cleats

If the adhesive is good enough to hold a cleat to the dock against a strong current or wind, you'll have to do damage to the boat to remove it - if you ever wanted to. Since it's going to be permanent, just weld it or drill and bolt it. There is usually a reason something becomes the common...

    Boat speed and rpms

My gut says you be able to get over 30mph, but just barely. Which prop you have makes a big difference. If you have trim tabs or a hydrofoil, knock off two or three mph because you're using up some of the power to lift the stern instead of go fast.

Add YOUR voice to the Federal Ethanol Mandate - Comment now!

It's not about efficiency or the environment. ADM, the world's largest agricultural company lobbied for ethanol in fuel so they could sell more corn. Big corn producing states got behind it demanding that their senators and congressmen push the EPA to require ethanol to prop up corn prices...

    Transporting mid size 4 stroke

drain the oil from the motor. Lay it on a couple of blankets in the back of your pickup. I like your chain fall on a tree limb idea. I did exactly that when I stripped my boat down to the hull to paint it. I also built something that looked like a tall sawhorse with wheels on one set of...

    Tohatsu 60/40 jet

Don't know anything about this motor. But the older 2 stroke Tohatsu/Nissans are really sought after here. I own two. Great motors. Last forever. Simple design with few things to go wrong. But I don't know if you're looking at on older one or a new one.

    Looking for an obsolete part

sometimes you have to fabricate something yourself. Not sure what this part is for but I'm sure you can come up with an elegant solution to do whatever this thing does.

Bought a boat (I know Finaly)

having the console that far forward will work well with that much motor. Having your weight forward will help keep the bow down. I've picked up several trailers from out of state. My suggestion: Pick up early in the morning in case you end up involved in more repairs than you expect...

    Water Separater

I have one on my boat with a 6 gal portable tank.

    Unusual case, motor bogging

If it ran 30 seconds or a minute at full throttle, I'd agree that it's starved for fuel. But there's at least 30 seconds of fuel in the carb bowl. If the carb wasn't getting enough fuel, it would run for 30 seconds on what's in the bowl before shutting down. Since it's only running 5 seconds...

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ lower water pump housing

since you mentioned a broken bolt...stainless hardware in aluminum tends to corrode. It's much worse in salt water but it's an issue either way. I always wire brush and coat all fastener threads with marine grease before reassembly. Anti-seize has copper in it which makes the corrosion worse...

1992 Yamaha 40 MSHQ lower water pump housing

I would wire brush what I can reach with a small brush and not worry too much about the rest. Just verify that the passages are clear, running in salt water for years can close up those passages. I'd also use fine (200 grit) emory paper on the shaft to prevent damaging the rubber impeller when...

    Cost of Fishing License

And some states offer a 3-day, 7-day, or something similar, non-resident fishing license. Perfect when you're on vacation and want to fish for a few days. But others require the full, sometimes very expensive, non-resident license if you're only going to fish a day or two.

    Float pods

Instead of spending the money on float pods and a welder to install them, sell the 12' and buy a bigger boat.

    Float pods

Too much for a 12' boat. 2 people, a trolling motor, and battery is going to be over the max load. But...everybody who owns a 12' boat uses it over the max load every time we go out. But your plan is too much in my opinion. You need a bigger boat. 2 people, 2 dogs, 9.9 outboard, and gas -...

    Lowe 1660

is that really 60" at the floor? If so, that's a great stable boat. If they've changed the way the measure jon boats to make it sound bigger by measuring 60" at the gunnels, shame on them.

    Water intake

I broke a prop last year doing this. I was running a 40hp outboard in a 55gal drum and shifted into gear. I'm not sure why I did it, I knew better. The prop was too close the bottom of the bucket and I ended up ordering a new prop.

    a little jet edumacation

A lot of 10hp lakes around here. Everybody runs old Tohatsu/Nissan 9.9 outboards with 15hp carbs. Stickers say 9.9hp and even the factory data plate does too. They will ticket you for motors over 10hp.

    Transom Replacement Material Options

I have two boats. One is a bigger 17' jon boat and has the removable transom cap. Plywood slips in between two layers of aluminum to make an AL-ply-AL sandwich. I don't think there are many cheaper options than plywood here because other types of lumber aren't the right size to fit. The...
