    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

I know those sucker trees grow fast, but that one is pretty big that has grown up between the boat and trailer frame!

Avoid battery core charge at Wal-mart

I bought 2 of the Everstart's from Walmart about 3 weeks ago and no core charge. They were even on sale at that time, Group 27 for $70 each. I bought online and used their outside pickup service so I didn't even have to go inside. Good thing they sent a young lad out, because they don't want you...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

I think I may have an addiction to Blue Sea Systems..... lol  (this isn't even everything) Did some mockup and installed a test piece of plywood for the center console to mount the fuse blocks/etc I also replaced the original switch panel with a Blue Sea systems panel. This was super...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

Epoxy testing with RAKA Inc. epoxy. Found it cheapest on ebay, but only had one choice, the UV type with slow hardener. I really need fast hardener right now as it's to cold... Anyway I made a test batch as I have never used this before and slapped it on a few pieces of wood and tested another...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

Made some progress, but weather is not cooperating for any epoxy/painting..... Here is the final glue, 3rd piece attached and weighted down Turned out real nice. Here's the profile after sanding. Came out at 1 7/16" Good thing it wasn't 1 1/2", it barely squeezes in at this thickness. 15 plys...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

I had also considered bringing my lithium powered jumper pack. Those things are great. Can jumpstart a diesel truck 10 times from about a 3lb battery pack. They aren't even that expensive.

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

Thanks Weldor. It does seem to be a nice platform to build on, and quite capable. First thing to get some comments about on electrical is for the starting/accessory battery arrangement. I have a typical starting battery and then a smaller 35AH deep cycle battery which will be combined with the...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

    * Please excuse the green tint to the pictures. The boat is under an awning with transparent green roof, so it adds that tint. I try to remove some of it, which can mess up other colors. Big thanks to DaleH on this forum for his how-to on basically the exact same transom and boat. I am pretty...

    1978 Starcraft SUS 16ft - Rebuild and Fix'er up

I got this beauty from my uncle about 2-3 years ago. Didn't even get it out on the water until last year, and had to do a bit of work to it then to outfit for Kokanee fishing/trolling. The boat sat outside for about 5 years before I got it, and the weather/pine needles certainly didn't do it any...

Transom plywood choices - amount of plys per thickness

The UV is about the same price maybe even cheaper from a seller on ebay, than direct from Raka.

Transom plywood choices - amount of plys per thickness

Pretty much set on epoxy, covering the whole thing and edges extra. I see everyone mention that only smaller amounts of epoxy will be needed for this. I'm looking at the RAKA UV resistant 3 qt kit for this. Sounds like I will have plenty of extra for other projects? Probably going to go with a...

Transom plywood choices - amount of plys per thickness

The plywood aren't true 3/4 or 1/2", actually slightly thinner so adding a coating shouldn't swell the dimensions to much. I was leaning towards epoxy sealing the whole thing, but I don't necessarily want to spend a fortune on this either. Plenty of ways to dump money into the boat already lol

Transom plywood choices - amount of plys per thickness

I am rebuilding my transom and need to get to 1.5" thick. There is no marine plywood available near to me so I am planning to use some good structural plywood, AC variant. I can do 2 pieces of 3/4" combined, or 3 pieces of 1/2" combined. They call the 3/4" as 5 ply, which it is really only 4...

Propeller calculator ('Prop Wizard') by Turning Point Props

Going to have to look into this later, I went through the calculator and it spec'd a very different prop than what is on the motor currently. From the handful of times I have had it out, it did very nicely but if I'm leaving a decent amount of power/MPG on the table then it would be worth to...

New Transom – 1976 Starcraft ‘Holiday 15’ Model

I see you used a piece of plastic on the back of the transom, between aluminum hull and the motor. Is that anything special? I had the same plywood backer as this boat, which is toast... and curious what you used there. Thanks for info

New Transom – 1976 Starcraft ‘Holiday 15’ Model

Doesn't sound to bad at all. Will have to find the right rivets, and maybe some new bolts/nuts too. Are you saying that the starter kit on that site was enough for the job? The cheapest kit on there I see is $42 for 1 1/2 qt, and probably not including shipping.
