    Plywood for flooring

I researched all this pretty well when I did my boat last year. I bought the most inexpensive epoxy I could find and diluted it with acetone until watery. Then did 2 or 3 coats. As another forum member described years ago, the acetone opens the grain and the epoxy impregnates the plywood. Do the...

    Old timers formula questions

Mos Def, go with the old timer's mix over BC/X. If I were doing mine again I would use old timer's mix instead of the acetone-thinned epoxy. The epoxy made the plywood bullet-proof, that is not the issue. I don't think my plywood will rot in 25 years. The reason I would use the old timer's...

    Plywood for flooring

I recently redid my 16' Mirrocraft deck with new plywood. I kept it the same as factory floor plan so I could use the old rotten plywood as templates. I used 1/2" B/C exterior, not treated. (Marine ply was $200/sheet last year.) I coated the new plywood, including the edges, with epoxy resin...

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

I believe you are right about my 40hp being built by Mariner. I first got confused trying find a Mercury fuel connector, but it turns out that the Yamaha fuel connector is what fits. I am happy with it's power and reliability, but it sure uses a lot of gas and is noisy! Onward,

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

Problem solved. The 40hp Mariner (model 40EL) ran better than ever today. Set a new speed record and zero hiccups. I guess I should have known, but it was dirty carburetors. I can't rule out the plugs because they were old and dirty and grimy. I changed them at the same time. But...

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

Thanks for these great suggestions. I took off the carburetors and have cleaned them- not rebuild kit, just disassemble and clean. They weren't bad, but now they are very clean. These carburetors are so easy to take apart it is no trouble at all. I checked fuel filter in the motor and it is...

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

Yes, once it is running well it will not show any symptoms at all. But it might take about 5 minutes on the water before it settles down to run smooth and do well accelerating. It will go from trolling to top speed like it should after it has gone through the hiccup phase. Thoughts?

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

Thank you, I can handle that. It's only got 2 carbs and should not be a big deal.

Evinrude/Johnson fuel connector too small for engine side?

yes! this is what it was. I guess my motor is old enough that the connector is not the common mercury/mariner. The Yamaha connector fits. Thanks much,

40 hp Mariner 2 stroke bogs down at first then runs great

Thanks for your advice, I am a little stumped. What could cause running bad at first, then running great? Here is the situation: Starts instantly and idles great at all times. During first accelerations, it bogs down on acceleration, then runs rough like it's not getting constant fuel. After a...

Evinrude/Johnson fuel connector too small for engine side?

It was in original package that said Johnson/Evinrude, so i don't understand what's going on unless there was a different version of the connector prior to 1990. I just want to make sure before I go pick up another one, to avoid the same issue. Thanks,

Evinrude/Johnson fuel connector too small for engine side?

I have a 1989 Evinrude 8hp, model number E8RCEC. I thought all the evinrude/johnson fuel line connectors to the motor were standard. I picked one up at the store, but the hole is too small to fit on the barb on the engine. The connector on the motor is original. It has never been removed or...

increase ground clearance on ShorLander trailer

Hi Folks, I have a ShorLander trailer for my 16' Mirrocraft Outfitter. I bought it a couple of months ago and the tires are worn out and old and the rims are rusty. So instead of keeping it the same, I would like to increase the ground clearance for off-roading, even if it makes launching a...

Is the foam in corners above deck needed?

Thanks for the comments. i will keep all that foam as it was from the factory. The blocks in the stern would help float the motor. Those by the livewell would help float the bow if the livewell was swamped.

Is the foam in corners above deck needed?

Hi, I am in the middle of replacing all the rotted wood in a 1987 16-foot MirroCraft Outfitter that I recently bought. Almost every piece of plywood was completely rotted. I have all new plywood treated with coats of diluted expoxy and wrapped in MariDek. For simplicity I used all the old...

Roberts 6700 versus DeckRite MD-102 adhesive

Hi, I am replacing all the wood in my 1987 Mirrocraft Outfitter and wrapping it in Marideck vinyl. I see some suppliers of Marideck selling Roberts 6700 and other the DeckRite MD-102 (my plywood is impregnated with epoxy resin so I need the MD-102). Roberts 6700 is $25 per gallon. MD-102 is...
