Quest to discover more soft plastic shapes and actions ongoing

IMO scents are nonscents. ;) My lures move too fast even at slow speeds for fish to smell or spit out a lure due to scent or taste. Though if I dipped a lure in gasoline chances are it wouldn't get bit. Color is as color does meaning: a lure's shape sets it apart from a background whether the...

Anyone fish for all species including panfish?

Excellent post and fish thill!!!! The use of light tackle is a big challenge when it comes to catching and playing large fish. Best is the number of fish caught on one outing - many days over 100.

Quest to discover more soft plastic shapes and actions ongoing

Many anglers on other forums don't comment on the pictures of fish and the lures that caught them, preferring store-bought lures. To each his own. Lure craft isn't for everyone and it's understandable. But lure crafters are after the answers to different questions - especially as it pertains to...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Even deep cycle Pb batteries? I keep mine on a trickle charge after full charging.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

My bass boat required three batteries: two deep cycles for trolling and the livewell for holding tournament bass and one for starting - the last one charged by the motor. They all lasted quite a while and the t.m. batteries did well on a tandem charge We're not talking huge lakes or river...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Dang, you two should get a commission as convincing and educational when it comes to Li batteries! (No way did I forget everyone else's contributions.) But I don't want to take only price into consideration, which seems crucial when choosing one. But $300 +/- is a lot to pay for a small boat...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Hand-crank starts when it does, which is not often. Guess I've been trying to restart it like a 2-stroke and flooding it. Mostly has sat in the garage since I got it Dec. 2021 which is why a 12v is so important.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

From all that, no way am I going Li even for my 12' jon boat with 2.5 hp 4-stroke! Guess I'll be buying a new Pb acid battery that I'll recharge with my simple auto-charger.

Great information! Glad I came back to this forum. Thanks so much!

    Aeration systems

I don't have the luxury of a livewell like in the bass boat I used to own. Now it's just a plastic box and a bucket to change the water ever so often. The fish are brought home and stocked in my pond. Very few don't make the 35 min. trip but that's a good idea using a 12v aerator for the trip home.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

I use a 55# thrust Minn Kota but usually use a steady discharge going from spot to spot and when returning back to the dock to go home. Otherwise, my trolling speeds vary between 1-3 speeds with me rowing silently into areas for shallow fish in weeds.

ECI Power 12V 20Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Rechargeable Battery Is that the right size for my boat? - no gas motor is used.

    A little bit of history

Armor and weapon caliber vs weight was a problem for German tank designers. Many models were produced starting in the late 30's that were okay for lightly defended areas and blitzkrieg tactics, but were moving targets for heavily defended positions and anti-tank guns. As in the photo, turrent...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Mostly to find anyone who uses a deep cycle Li battery and if they agree with the positives noted. I've never heard of a budget Li battery, but if it holds its charge better than lead batteries at mid-speed using the trolling motor, I might consider buying one for my light aluminum row boat...

A method to keep soft plastics from slipping down on jigs after fish caught

I tried both ways - glue and the coil - and found the wire L less damaging and quicker to mount or remove any soft plastics - even 6" plastic worms. Jig trailer keeper wire: Make a small wire loop that won't go past the barb and insert. Trailer body action isn't affected.

A method to keep soft plastics from slipping down on jigs after fish caught

The same wire can be used in a different way to secure plastic trailers on skirted bass jigs.

A method to keep soft plastics from slipping down on jigs after fish caught

A few other examples: I won't use jigs without the wire. But one thing that keeps plastics in better shape after 10+ fish are caught: Use no-collars jigs. Collars always put holes in the plastic.

A method to keep soft plastics from slipping down on jigs after fish caught

I came up with this idea 10 years ago and won't use jigs & soft plastics without it. 1. floral arrangement wire in 2 gauges. One diameter for light jigs and smaller hooks, the other for larger hooks on heavier jigs. Example: 24g 2. wire cutters 3. Cut the length shown so that the wire is...

    Catfish/bass bait.

Not into using anything but lures - even ice fishing. Granted, there is a better chance of catching catfish but not so much bass and panfish.

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

A bud just boat a lightweight Li battery for 350 bucks. Anyone buy one and was it worth it? Claimed advantages: 1. A lithium battery can keep your trolling motor at the same speed for almost twice as long as lead-acid batteries of the same rated capacity. 2. Most lithium batteries can be...
