Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

Lammichael6499, I was unaware of Coosa Board till your post. I did some quick research. It is more appears to be much more structurally rigid. Weight is about 1 pound per square foot at 1/2" thickness. A 4x8 sheet of 1/2" is ~350-370 dollars. I think that you would end up with less weight...

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

I picked up the materials from HD today. I was actually surprised at how pliable the FRP board is. That being said, when I put a piece of 1" formular board in a sandwich, it was very rigid. I have a 1' X 2' test that I'll be assembling tomorrow. I ended up using heavy duty siding shears to...

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

Just an update. I'm starting on this project tomorrow. If the HD styrene sheet has a plastic backing, it will be removed. I also plan on poking small holes in the surface of the foam to allow some 'teeth' for the epoxy. We did this for balsa sheeted foam wings on RC airplanes back in the day...

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

Thanks for posting that info. I expect that the weight will be around 1.35 pounds per square foot. The encouraging thing is that my 1436 will only require roughly 42" square area to cover the front part of the boat. The info on the plastic coating is good info...I'll be stripping the plastic...

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

I spoke with the folks at Raka and ordered some epoxy. It will be a fairly pricey experiment, but I think it is worth a shot. I'll post my progress here.

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

Thanks for the response. Saving weight is a top concern. I have searched, but have not found an example of dual sided FRP/Polystyrene laminate used on our boats. Am I understanding you correctly that you recommend using epoxy to join the layers? I can see where it would probably have better...

Anyone create FRP Board and Polystyrene sandwich for decking.

I'm curious if anyone has used one inch polystyrene sheet laminated on each side with FRP board to create a lightweight sandwich for a front decking material requiring minimal support structure underneath? 1" Polystyrene Sheet FRP Board

Anyone running a Alumacraft 1436 with a Tohatsu 6HP? Top speed?

It turns out that my Tach was set to max RPM of 6000. I changed the upper limit and found actual max rpm was 6200 rpm. Since the recommended rpm range for my engine is 5500-6000 rpm, I continued my search for a best prop for my application. Drag is likely my biggest issue. I'm considering that...

Anyone running a Alumacraft 1436 with a Tohatsu 6HP? Top speed?

GYPSY400, You pretty much called it. I purchased a SOLAS 5011-078-07 Amita 3 Aluminum 3-Blade Propeller. This seven inch pitch is the next pitch down, but not a Tohatsu brand prop, obviously. I took the boat out after swapping the prop, and maximum RPMs went from 5400 to 6000. It appears the...

Anyone running a Alumacraft 1436 with a Tohatsu 6HP? Top speed?

For the kind and curious who have looked at this thread. I have ordered a Solas 7.8 x 7 prop for my engine. After going to the end of the internet three separate times I found where one poor soul added this to his Jon boat after trying a cheap no-name prop. He stated that he gained a few MPH...

Anyone running a Alumacraft 1436 with a Tohatsu 6HP? Top speed?

Long story short, I have a virtually stock Alumacraft 1436 and a Tohatsu 5HP. I'm looking at spending $200 to upgrade to the 6HP carb. Currently, I'm able to run about 12.25 mph. If you have this setup with a Tohatsu 6HP, what is your top speed with just you in the boat? I don't want to...

Alumacraft 1436 Engine Harmonic Resonance at 3/4 throttle

I didn't realize this was a thing. The engine is a 4 stroke, brand new and I'm just doing the break-in process. You are correct that when you pass through this rpm range it does smooth out. I appreciate the experience shared. Thank you.

Alumacraft 1436 Engine Harmonic Resonance at 3/4 throttle

I'm breaking in my 5HP Tohatsu and found that around 4000 rpm there is a significant vibration near the transom. This 2011 Alumacraft 1436 is the first jon boat I've owned and am not sure if this is common, or if it is a potential problem I should research further. The engine is firmly secured...

    Float pods

Take a look at these. They don't look too difficult and would not impede using your truck for transport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39GUDlBnRno
