    Re-power Yamaha C90

have you given any thought to the F70? It's around 250 lbs, so a little weight loss compared to your C90. Plus all the benefits. I posted a idle video of an F70 a while back. The engine is so quiet running that the only thing you hear is the pee water hitting the surface of the test tank...

    Staying light

I went from 25 yamaha twin carb 2 stroke (105 lb) to four stroke yamaha 25 (129 lb) and actually picked up 2 mph and change. Same hull. Remove one motor, clamp the new one on (while still docked in 2 foot of water) then took off again. As close to apples-to-apples as I can think of. If...

    Evinrude Outboards is no longer

they had the opportunity to compete with the other brands' 4 stroke, and they poorly chose to continue with a heavy, overly complex 2 stroke design that costs more than a comparable 4 stroke. Secondly, the 25hp market at least in this area has been on fire for many years, in other words a lot...

90 HP Etec jet measured "at the prop"

who knows with etec it could be a 125/90 or it could be a 90/65 and they don't tell you it's actually only 65 hp. I'd say call their customer service line but I'm not sure anyone would answer since brp announced the other day that they ain't building no more outboards. they are out of the...

    '93 Johnson 25HP, Can't get it to idle right...VIDEO!!

don't know but I have been given the same motor, 25hp johnson, needs carburetor work. This carburetor looks like fun to remove. Electric start so the starter has to come off. Who's the idiot that designed this.

Prop Pitch Recommendations - need help

A tachometer is not simply a tool to have when adjusting the prop. A tachometer is absolutely paramount! You simply can NOT tune the prop and motor setup without a tach, period. You need a tach. You need a tach. you need a tach. Shall I repeat? LOL! Seriously, without it you're peeing...

    New motor

That's the way dad is. He grew up on the rivers in Montana, then later at Oregon, then Nebraska, and I was born and lived on that river for the first 11 years of my life, now here. But here, he ain't spent much time on the lakes/rivers mostly because the boat he's had is, well, junk. Cracks...

    New motor

Since dad’s 80th is coming up and Father’s Day as well, I had planned on buying him a new Yamaha F15 from work, for his little 1448 weld craft. Currently it’s powered by a 1957 Evinrude 7.5, which runs when it wants to. He likes the fact that it’s an old antique, but hates it’s “reliability”...

Need Help with Setting Mercury 25 4 Stroke

Keep raising it until it blows out in turns while your PT&T is trimmed out. Then try trimming it back in when you turn. If it doesn't blow out while in a turn on plane and trimmed in a little, you're just about the right height. This really applies to a prop that doesn't have a ton of rake...

Storing Boat on Water all Summer

If at all possible, leave it on the trailer until you're ready to use it. IT sounds like your place needs a lot of updating, etc and if that's the case, it's always best to take care of your greatest investment FIRST, before going fishing. Then once that part's done you can fish all you want...

    2019 Yamaha F25 making oil

Just curious how you're checking the oil? Ideally, check it before you start the engine, and after it sits for a minimum of 30 minutes (preferably overnight) after being run. Should be in the checkered region of the stick not at the top. I kinda think you're doing it right but wanted to be sure.

Jon boat in bed of pickup

Did it many years. 1432 in the back of an 82 El Camino (v6 nonetheless...gutless wonder). Mercury 9.8. Fuel, tackle everything. Had to take the motor off, load the boat into the "truck" (Cruck, Cark?), then throw the motor in the motor well for weight so it didn't fall out. Tied down well...

    vacation

Well wouldn't ya know. I'm off work tomorrow and they say the sun's gonna be out. Elbow ain't been real bad the last few days so I'm gonna sleep good tonight, get up early and head to the river and see if I can snag dinner. The big decision is...which body of water? Lake is 25 minutes...

    2019 Yamaha F25 making oil

nah, the LP fuel pump is easy enough to remove. 10mm wrench and 10mm socket. You might consider a valve adjustment. Removal of the LP pump is part of removal of the valve cover, you'll be right there anyway. No gasket, just an o-ring. Set 'em to spec. I think 005-009 intake and 008-011...

    2019 Yamaha F25 making oil

Probably propped ok. You NEED a dealer datalog (with ydis) to watch the engine temperature. My fear is that the thermostat isn't closing, engine temp stays cold. Also need a complete oil change but you know that already. does your hourmeter (tinytach) match the motor hours? Just curious...

1986 Yamaha 25hp Ignition or Fuel Problems

based on the picture of the cyl head, it's been really hot at some point in it's life. Same cyl head as some of the old 500cc wave runners I used to work on; typically when I saw one in that color, it was either seized or had parts hanging out of it, sometimes both. Of course that's a...

    2019 Yamaha F25 making oil

Jet ski's run a dry sump system. Outboards are semi-dry sump, well sorta. There are a ton of things that can cause oil level to rise. Do you idle a lot? Do you have happen to have a datalog from dealer inspection that I can look at? Specifically the number of total hours vs the number of...

    vacation

I'm on the water as often as possible. Meaning, if there ain't no tornadoes or big hail, I'm on the water on my day(s) off work. Today was a rare exception. I have something wrong with my left elbow and it's been bothering me for the last several months but have been able to "fish through...

1986 Yamaha 25hp Ignition or Fuel Problems

The one post about yamaha being notorious for the transition is not 100% true. When tuned properly, they are silky smooth in the transitions from idle to main and from no advance to full advance on the ignition side. Trick is, to get it all correct....and not many know how. With regard to...
