Plugs on a 2 stroke when idling alot?

pappy's right and I'll reiterate that some folks just have to run rich oil mixtures and that seems to complicate things (and more than just plug fouling). Also, some aren't careful when mixing oil and gas, either lean or rich, they''ll pour in a little oil without knowing exactly how much fuel...

    Vaping

I'm with crazyboat no drugs including alcohol-which is also a drug I lost my uncle to alcohol. Killed himself (pickled). Lost my best friend to alcohol, that man had so much to give and he cut his own life short with booze. Lost my great uncle, cirrhosis of the liver. Many of my friends...

Girl friends daughter is a nurse

GF's mom died july of last year. COD listed as covid19. she was never diagnosed with covid19. She had AITL, had a reaction to the chemo and thats what really caused her death. I had conversation with another doctor here, who said that C19 may have prevented the proper care/treatment--and...

    Eth in Non-Eth gas??

you can barely (if at all) find true 0% ethanol fuel almost all "non ethanol" fuel has SOME. You never know how much unelss you get a test kit and check it yourself. The government doesn't require fuel to be labeled "may contain ethanol" until the E content is is over 3.5% as I recall. If it...

    Bolting to the transom

yamaha supplies a kit that comes with all of the smaller motors. Really high quality bolts, washers, but they don't use nylock nuts. They use regular nuts, but then you have to double-nut them. Ain't going anywhere. Mind you I'm speaking of the BIA patterened motors (old style F25's, F40's...

    Jack plate questions

I put a mico-jacker on a customer's boat the other day, and tested (and adjusted) afterwards. BIG improvement. Runs real shallow but it adjustable on the fly. Nice setup. Little expensive but worth every single penny in his case. one could also try a power tilt plate. With that (I run a...

    Difficulty with New Tohatsu

many of the tohatsu smaller motors have either a nonexistent or poor compression release. Second you have a single cylinder 4 stroke. The combination is going to be a little on the rough side to start manually. The 4 stroke dirtbike trick is about all you can really do. This assumes that the...

Need help--older Mariner 40EL rough idle with bad shaking in gear

I am not 100% familiar with that motor. Is the CDI a Yamaha or Mercury part? Generally speaking, on yamaha stuff, the cdi's don't die. Or more specifically if there is a problem with them they just won't make a spark, hence the engine will never run. I have never (ever) seen one that would...

Wearing an 'Ignition Kill Lanyard' now MANDATORY on 'newer' boats < 26'

Although not really enforced much they do check for it out here. Mine's on when I'm motoring. I learned the hard way many years ago duck hunting in January on the Arkansas River (west of Toad Suck). Hit a log and came out of the boat in freezing water. Remember on tin boats you're usually...

Yamaha F70 dies while on step

vst pump failure was random and there was no real pattern. Some would quit at idle, some would always lose power at full throttle and some would run for an hour and then lose fuel pressure. Completely random. The pump impeller is plastic and is pressed onto a metal shaft. The bond between...

    Short shaft/long shaft

does your suzuki have a water flush hose? Do you run the engine out of the water, using the flush hose adapter? On a lot of yamaha's, they have that flush adapter on the side of the lower pan. People think that if I'm forcing water into the adapter, it's cooling the engine-and that's correct...

Motor Height with CMC Break Away Mount

I went and played with mine some yesterday. I was at 4" lift and tried a couple different borrowed props, and lifted the engine higher. It's on a war eagle 548, F25C. With the normal setup, 12" Turbo hotshot lifted 4" even on a CMC PT35, I was happy with it. Decided to try for more since I...

Yamaha F70 dies while on step

there was a run of prematurely failing fuel pumps around the tail end of that timeframe. The complaint was exactly as you describe. Dies with load applied, and sometimes intermittently. In order to diagnose, you would need a fuel pressure gauge attached to the rail or better yet a way to...

depends on the hull but I've run 4" lift with no issue with 5.5" setback.

    Jack plate questions

typically as you set the motor back from the transom the higher you can run the the motor, so long as the prop doesn't ventilate (blow out). So with many small jack plates, which are 5-6" setback, you can gain up to 3" of lift. Ideally you'd want a hydraulic jack plate such as the atlas...

    Jack plate questions

you're only going to lift it so far before you run into prop ventilation. one can play with props to get it higher, but not recommended unless you have a way to feed the water pump inlet. How skinny? If inches, get a jet and be done with it. That's all they're good for.
