Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

Update: As some of you predicted I did have a failure in the tiller-shift mechanism. Lost my reverse gear. I just got is back from the shop where I had them completely remove the tiller-shift hardware and had them install a standard side-shift lever kit. Back on the water this Saturday for a...

WV, Can you get some close-ups of that bracket setup please? Tell me about the aluminum brackets that attach to the ends of each bench seat. Also - that is a beautiful boat! CMOS

Help with bow mount trolling motor on a Lone Star tinner

Rich, As I stated on 2Cool that's a solid mount for sure, but it may be a bit intrusive for a multi-use boat. I'll give that some thought. I think I'm going to start by clamping on the side, just behind the bow cap. CMOS

Help with bow mount trolling motor on a Lone Star tinner

Howdy All, After fishing a full season with my 14' Lone Star it's become painfully obvious that I can't do any better fishing with this rig without a TM. I want to do a bow mount, as I have been advised by many that a stern steer is sloppy and is greatly effected by even light wind. I'll...

    9 1/2 Evinrude question

I just sold a 1966 9.5 that was bullet proof for me for 2.5 years. All I did when I bought it was a carb kit and a full rebuild of the water pump, oh and for grins I replaced the T-stat. She ran rock solid for 2.5 years until I got the opportunity to get a good used 25 HP! CMOS

This. Don't pass it up yet. If there's only very minor surface corrosion inside the lower where the water pump housing is located, get him to drop the price a but and off you go. CMOS

    6HP to 9.9HP on a 14' Boat... Worth It?

OKG, With that weight load you're not going to get 15 MPH. I just upgraded my 9.5, on a 14' tinner, to a 25 HP. With the above load that you stated, I got 10-11 MPH with the 9.5. With the 25 HP I'm easily doing 21-22 MPH, and that's not WOT. At WOT for some reason the handling gets a bit...

Newbie intro and some Lone Star questions...

Congrats! I have a 1963 Lone Star Commander. Typically the transom only has wood on the inside. The drain hole on my Lone Star is exactly as you describe - just a hole. Never had a problem with it cutting the plug. "Stern heavy" - why do you say this? Is it difficult to get on plane? From...

Looking for a plain old Jon Boat and need some help.

At 10 HP you'll have trouble doing this unless the boat is empty. I had a 9.5 on a 14' (no additional mods) and would get 14-15 MPH if it was just ME in the boat. No coolers, no gear, etc. So, if you want the 15-20 MPH you'll need some more ponies. Give this some thought. CMOS

Tiller extension and kill switch for 25hp merc

A Mercury Kill Switch Lanyard will fit right on there, meaning its designed to have the lanyard on it. You then attach the lanyard to somewhere on your body/clothes and simply "pull" the cord in case of emergency. The lanyards can be bought for about 5 bucks. CMOS

Leaking seams on my 1960s Lonestar

Looks like my 1963 Lone Star "Commander". MB - mine leaks a few drops from that same seem. I doubt that replacing/sealing rivets alone will take care of all the leaks. To me, it looks like that seam itself is leaking. In this case I'd flip the boat and seal that entire seam with Gluv or 3M...

    Wood for Boat Transom

I used 2 pieces of 3/4" regular plywood for mine. Cut to shape, used carpenters adhesive to secure the 2 pieces together, then completely covered the entire thing with 2 coats of Fiberglass resin. Makes the wood completely waterproof. One other thing - I predrilled the mounting holes in the...
