Poorly neglected boat, bringing her back to service

Painting the trailer white will make it look good but as an alternative idea why not use aluminum paint? The kind your paint chain link fence with. It's cheap and easy to apply and makes the metal look like new. I did mine with it.

    Filling transom holes

I had the same thing on my boat. I just drilled through the transom wood and used the bolts for re-inforcing the transom. I also added a motor support piece of plywood on the back of the boat

    Westin aluminum 1448

I looked online for Westin aluminum boats but couldn't find anything. But that doesn't mean much. At the end of World War 2 a huge amount of rolled aluminum sheet, made for B24,25,29's Etc was declared surplus and small boat builders popped up all over the place since Uncle Sam sold it for...

    Westin aluminum 1448

I have to think that there isn't much of a weight difference between the 20 and 25 hp motor. I have a 14 ft. Richline semi-vee built in 1960 and it is rated for up to 30 hp. from the factory so that 25 should be fine. I would definately put the 25 on it and run it before I'd spend the extra...

Anybody have a home made transom saver?

I made one out a 2x4 Cut a V on one end for the motor and drilled a hole on the other for a rod to attach to the trailer. A rubber bungee cord secured the motor to the wood. Spent less than $5 and it worked fine Of course it was a small outboard

    Sears 1436 Build

It's certainly hard to believe that is only a 14/36. It looks much bigger in the pictures. I wish I had your skills. The boat and decking looks REALLY nice! With that 25, it should do somewhat better than 4.5 mph! LOL

    Decking "Outside the Box

Reading all the posts here on how to add a floor or deck, it seems that many people go way overboard on designs and work involved. I have a covered patio 16 feet deep and 51 feet long It's made of foam filled aluminum sheets. 5 feet wide and 16 feet long. It is only supported at the roofline and...

    Boat modifications

If you can get 4 inch thick polyurethane foam, use it to make the floor and put indoor/outdoor carpeting over it. easy peasy I have an insulated patio cover thats made of two aluminum sheets with 4 inches of foam between. It comes in 4 and 5 by 16 ft panels. One would do the trick and give you...

    14'v bottom or 15/42 jon?

I like a v for the the ability to cut through the waves but if you must have a deck to stand on, why not put one in the center of the boat? or the stern?

    Ladders... I'm using ladders.

As usual, ask 100 guys and get 100 opinions I like the idea of using ladders for support, after all, its just a floor not the next shuttle craft for interstellar flight!. I like to re-purpose things too. The ladders are aluminum, like the boat. They will add 4 inches to the height of the floor...

    New mercury 40hp

Do you want to fish or water ski? What's the big attraction to going fast? Down here, the recommended HP rating on a boat means nothing. 14 ft jon's with 35 to 45 hp motors on the are all too common Slow down and enjoy the ride

    UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

O.K. then, the electric winch solved 50% of your problems. Here's the other 50% Put an elevated railing around the front of the boat. The kind you see on offshore boats. Chrome or aluminum about waist high. Helps keeping you on your feet. Move the console to the rear of the boat. Where is it...

    UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

Harbor Freight sells an electric winch with a wireless remote for around $60. Mount it in place of the hand winch and then it's a breeze to retrieve the boat. You can line the boat up with a boat hook and let the winch do the work.

    UPDATE! Maybe tin no more

This may sound crazy but how about a paddle boat with an electric trolling motor and wheels attached to the stern? The kind with a bimini top

Where do you keep your Boat?

In the backyard, covered with a tarp. Takes just a minute to hook er up and go fishing, 365 days of the year sometimes. Not the fishing, just the availability

    Casting Decks

Maybe i'M old fashioned or just nuts,,,,,,,,, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,, What is the facination here with putting casting decks on the bow of fishing boats? Most of the threads here deal with this subject, well, a lot of them anyway. Why do you take a perfectly stable 14 to 16 foot tin boat with plenty...
