    1984 Pike Attacker rebuild

thread- yes, going- no I got much of the of the framework, and a bunch of holes filled when I stopped working on it about this time last year. I'm about to start back up, and was just looking for some inspiration when I saw your wood formula and took a mental note.

    1984 Pike Attacker rebuild

Looks good, your doing quality work. I would leave the splash well out. It looks cleaner without it, and it is practically useless since you changed the transom. I linked to your build from another where you recommended a wood treatment formula- 1 part mineral spirits, 1 part boiled...

    Just look at that hole!!

"Check out reed control plate or stop at .642in high? Item "M". Mine hits the crank at that height." Item M is the distance between top of the piston ring and the top of the piston in the specs. I believe that funny looking M could really be a misprinted H which is 0.256+/-.020. I have the...

    Waterproof foam?

All the foam must have been in the benches then. Lol

    flat bottom or mod V

I have two modified v's. Where I fish ( mostly a combination of small or mid size lakes and a mid size river ) they work well. I rarely fish large lakes, but my larger boat works there as long as the weather doesn't get bad. I don't take my smaller boat out to the larger lakes even with...

    YJs 1236 Semi V Mod

Trailers looking good, but the winch looks a little low. A straighter pull on the bow eye would make it easier to crank it that last foot or so to get the bow firmly against the bow stop.

new project, should I or should I not?

It's the width or beam of a boat that is the biggest factor in stability, not their depth. Flatter hull shapes also tend to have better initial stability ( v vs flat bottom ). If that larger boat has a sound hull and the trailer is good enough to get it home it's a deal.

    Polar Kraft 1448 Flat conversion

Boat, paint, and foam look good. Looks like a good foundation for a build. Have you decided on your floor? You might want to consider fiberglass reinforced plastic wall board. It looks like you have the support for it. Most of your larger home stores carry it. It's much cheaper than Aluminum...

    2000 Tracker Grizzly Opinions

For river use the heavier welded tracker could serve you well for years to come no matter what motor you use. The lighter riveted Lowe will show hull issues over time in a rocky river ( rock contact causes their thin hulls to wave, dent, or even tear, and tends to loosen rivets causing future...

    Waterproof foam?

Last reply was funny. If the boat fills up with enough water to float bottom side up, does it really matter where you put the foam at that point?

    2014 Alumacraft mv16:

Are you sure your motor isn't to high? Rule of thumb is cavatation plate parallel with the bottom of the hull. An inch or two above that might be fine, but yours looks well above that, hard to tell in the pics. The last thing you want to happen is it starts to cavitate and/or overheat during...

You're welcome, and good luck. Let us know how it works. I might be doing the same in the rear bench of my 1442 soon too.

2015 Alumacraft MV 1546 DD build

I've seen a couple builds on here where guys have used metal pipe with a sharp or sharpened end to make a tunnel through the foam for the ends of their rod tubes. I remember one guy used a shop broom handle after the broom accidentally got run over. I would think a piece of pvc pipe with a well...

2015 Alumacraft MV 1546 DD build

How do you think a 9.9hp would perform on the 1546? Not well. I wouldn't think you would be able to get on plane with fishing stuff on the boat. Biggest thing I would look at if I wanted a 9.9 to plane me and my fishing gear would be a riveted 1542. I would and did personally look for a...

    Alumacraft mods 1442 MV

The way that front bench is mounted reminds me of how an 11 year old would put together his first bird house. It looks like if I straightened, leveled it out, and trimmed or removed that large mounting lip it would fit under the rail.

    Alumacraft mods 1442 MV

All but a couple of the holes have been fixed. I used about 1/3 or more of a bottle of Loctile gel epoxy, and about a 1/4 of a bottle of a Devcon epoxy gel to fill over a hundred holes. The Devcon product was easier to use because it only required one application where the Loctile often required...

    first boat 17ft Lowe roughneck

"I have a big area behind the rear bench and transom that I was thinking would be a good spot for the fuel and batteries." On a river boat you plan to run and fish shallow in you want the weight on the boat to be fairly evenly distributed front to back to keep your boat floating fairly level...

    first boat 17ft Lowe roughneck

From a river fishermens point of view a forward console makes perfect sense. The perspective of your pic may be misleading, but your mocked console looks to far forward. Maybe your front deck is small, hard to tell whats really going on without better pics. You could consider locating your...
