trolling motor install on my Alumacraft MV 1648 NCS....

Will you be installing a seat base in the front deck? Was there an issue that prevented you from putting the trolling motor plate below the deck? My old Alumacraft 1648 had 3/4" plywood under the front deck. Nice build, so far!

    Hydrofoil

Getting back to the question at hand, I have tried various ones, on both small and large outboards. I've always got the best performance from Attwood's Hydrafoil. Smooth holeshot, and when you've got it trimmed correctly, half of it is out of the water. Plus the fact that it's side mounted, you...

Any Tin Boaters near Palm Bay, Florida?

I just downloaded an article about the St. John's River, and I can't wait to sit down and read it. I also downloaded the Florida Wildlife Commision guide to the northeast region, and it looks like that should keep me busy, for awhile. I feel honored to have you reply to my post. I spent a great...

    Mini Jack Plate Question

I only put that jack plate on to give my girlfriend more leg room in the back. Gaining 3 M.P.H. was just a little bonus. It was well worth the money, and easy to install.

    Mini Jack Plate Question

See if this picture helps. I've seen the jackplates mounted higher, but I'm not sure I'd try that with a 25HP.

Anyone pour their own soft plastics?

I used to do alot of bluefish and striper fishing, casting 4" sassy shads on 1/2 oz heads. We would go thru 50 - 100 bodies a trip. I got tired of paying 40 cents a piece for Shad bodies, so I bought a bunch of stuff from LureCraft. Large melting pot, thermometer, stir sticks, measuring spoons...

    New 9.9 Bigfoot

I don't know how hard it would be to hook up a tach, but I'd be interested to know how many R.P.M.'s you're getting at W.O.T. Years ago, after spending that much for a new motor, the dealer would lend out different pitch props, so that you could find the sweet spot. You could try to move a...

    Boat Dealers

The manufacturers sales rep for my region, called first thing this morning. He apologized for the pain I went through, and told me that he will be talking with the owner of the dealership that I visited. He also offered a $200 discount, to cover the expenses that I incured on the wasted trip. He...

    Boat Dealers

After alot of research and soul searching, I am finally ready to order the hull for my custom jon boat. Because the manufacturer will only sell through their dealers, I had to make an appointment with a dealer in a different state, over one hundred miles away. I took off of work Friday, left the...

    Boat bottom front design?

I have been a metal fabricator, and tin boater for 35 years. I have access to the most modern fabricating equipment, and, still, I would never attempt it. Just my opinion. Don...

    Using/Bending/Welding Different Grades of Aluminum

It seems that most jon boat manufacturers use 5052 grade aluminum for their hulls. In regards to materials for jon boat mods, i.e.: sheet, tubing, angle, etc., can these grades be mixed, and if yes, what mig wire would I use to weld these different grades? I' ve been told to use the wire grade...

    Mig or Tig ?

I've been a steel fabricator for 35 years. I've welded alot of steel. I've welded aluminum with a Mig (spoolgun), but I've never had a Tig gun in my hand. I wouldn't be welding on the hull, just going to be framing the decks out of aluminum, and was just wondering if a spoolgun will get the job...

    Mig or Tig ?

There is a statement in the 2012 Alweld Boats brochure reading: "Tig welding produces a leak-proof seam, which Mig welding cannot." Can someone verify this?

    How wide is too wide?

I want to thank all of those that responded. I didn't consider Trailering Width, and I will be doing research on that, but I don't think it will be a problem. Nitro Z-9's and Triton 21HP's have 96" beams, with trailer widths of 8'6". I would go with an 18', but a couple of the lakes, that I plan...
