Transom bolts - what kind to use?

If you use your boat in the salt, stainless will still cause galvanic corrosion. It may not be an issue with freshwater, but I have all stainless fasteners on the bow of my boat and 20 years of striper fishing has caused a whole bunch of galvanic corrosion. See this link...

Transom replacement, curved to straight question

Ideally you want the cav plate a bit lower, but then again, it's just a 5hp so it's not like you are going to really be on plane so it may not be a big deal. If it were me I would replicate what is there exactly. Plus, how would you fabricate a new top cap? oop, I see LDUBS beat me to that.

    Alternative to Gluvit

I agree, the Jb Weld on that center strake would be reason enough for me not to invest any money in that hull. Unless it has sentimental value I guess.

    What is a Jon Boat?

Fry your next grilled cheese in mayonnaise. It's an old diner trick and delicious!

What percentage of your boating is....

At the beginning of the open water season, which means April here in the Northeast, I fish freshwater trout and salmon lakes. When they start to go deep in late June and July I transition to fishing for striper. I'm 45 minutes to the Atlantic. Sometimes Ill go groundfishing for a day. Then in...

    What is a Jon Boat?

I know plenty of people that call anything they can throw in the bed of a pickup a jon boat but I always thought the same thing as others- flat bottom and square ends makes a jon boat.

    Console placement

I've always wondered that. I troll at very slow speeds and the boat can go sideways very quickly at 1.2mph. I don't think I would enjoy stick steering even though I would love the space.

Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

Right, most motors have a spot to install a lift eye through the flywheel. That's the way to go and cheaper than a strap.

Direct to Hull Mounting Stainless Transducer Bracket - Corrosion?

I bought a transducer mounting plate from BPS a long time ago. Glad I did, there are a whole bunch of holes in there now.

    Lund V-hulls and skinny water

I bass fish 3' water with my 21' Sylvan deep V with a whole bunch of weight on the stern. I just use the trolling motor to fish skinny. I don't think it draws more than 18-20" but I'm also not scared of a little incidental, low speed contact:p

    Solar Eclipse 2024

Went to my camp in Pittsburg NH which was in the path of totality. WHAT A MISTAKE. Drove up Friday as I usually do after work, not much traffic at all! I was excited because that was my biggest concern, but they must have all come in droves on Sat, Sun and Mon. I'd have no idea since I almost...

Getting ready to outfit new Crestliner Storm 1700 with Elco motor and ??? electronics

I could go on and on about all the reasons (and it has nothing to do with being a speed addict), but I would never own a setup that isn't powered with at least 80% of max rated horsepower. For that boat I would personally get at least a 50hp. Nice boat, I've owned a Crestliner before and it was...

    Console placement

I have the side console version of that boat, a '95 14 foot Superfisherman. Maybe this pic can help you see how it was placed from the factory.

    T-Motor mounting bracket

You got that right! My Starcraft has a deck for the trolling motor that was made out of a yield sign and a brake press. Works perfect.

Filling in Pedestal Seat Holes in Marine Grade Plywood

If it were me I would probably just install inspection covers. I have one of these in my floor for access to the fuel tank sending unit and it doesn't bother me one bit.

1995 Sylvan 14 ft Classic Fisherman

That goes for any boat. If it's new it's a chore keeping it looking like new. If it's older, well, you know that part. Welcome to the Sylvan-hood!! I've really enjoyed mine.
