Thanks so much! Did you use tubing or angle for your floor braces that you attached to the top of the ribs?

Does anyone have any more suggestions on this floor? I still am unsure of whether to use angle or square tubing and how to design the floor.

That Would be the angle, there are no chunks missing from the prop. It does need a good regrinding however, which I will be having done in the next couple weeks.

So its not worth getting a new skeg welded on?

The skeg on my motor broke off right at the tip, and I was wondering if you guys think that grinding this flat and making it straight up and down would reduce any performance or affect anything. I wouldn't like to take it to get fixed if I don't have to. Wondering your guys opinion.

Ok, so to summarize, I'll spot prime all bare aluminum and scuff up the previous paint with 220 grit paper and then wipe with mineral spirits. And roll on the paint.

I was thinking of screwing self tapping screws through the aluminum square tube into the rib and having them run stern to bow. I can't figure out how you would secure plywood to a piece of aluminum angle flooring like you guys are saying, it just does not make sense to me.

Ended up going with napa 7222 zinchrom for my primer. Should I give the metal a bath of vinegar before I prime? And then rinse and dry before spraying primer?

Did you topcoat over this primer with marine paint? or the tuffcoat? And also would it be ok above the waterline where it will it splashed?

If anyone could provide a link to the zinc chromate primer they used, or one you know is good quality it would be greatly appriciated.

Dale, thank you for all the informative responses. One more question for you, before spraying the zinc chromate on the hull is it neccesary to remove all the previous paint or could I just scuff and remove loose paint and prime over the well adhered paint?

And i can't find zinc chromate locally to save my life, do you have to order this stuff online always?

Say i go the vinegar route and then spray with a zinc phosphate primer. Would any topside boat paint work to cover the zinc primer? or is that stuff tricky to topcoat?

Wondering if anyone here has used alumahawk boat paint. Its really intriguing because you don't need to prime, just apply paint to the bare aluminum after wiping with vinegar. If this product is no good, what is the best primer, and topcoat to paint a boat for a reasonable price? Thanks, Max

Got the transom almost complete as well. Just need to spar varnish it. Cut a solid piece of oak to shape, dropped it in drilled all my holes and drains and mounted the motor to drill the motor mounting holes. I drilled the holes first so the spar would cover the bare wood inside the holes. This...

Worked on the motor this weekend. Degreased and cleaned up under the hood, changed my lower unit oil, and replaced some old wires. The new water pump is working perfect now. Nothing left to do with this motor other than reshaping the prop. She's ready to go.
