Need proof that tin boats "sweat" - forming condensation?

If the enclosed compartment is actually totally sealed off from the outside air it will only "create" as much moisture as is present in the material in the compartment. If the compartment and foam are 100% totally dry there will be no condensation occurring.

Best way to work on the inside of the boat?

Silly questions like this won't make you too many friends on the forums. I'm sure you'll figure it out...

Need some advice-Transom leak on Jon Boat

Looks like multiple layers of goop that have been applied in attempts to fix leaks over time. You could easily have a totally rotted wood core in the transom which could cause your motor to break off and sink to the bottom on a really bad day. Or....it could be not that bad yet. Poking around...

    Help..

Let's hope you never have to find out. My riveted Lowe hull is 32 years old and has never leaked a drop and it's never been garaged. Of course this is it's first year with a jet on it so it's not likely to make it another 32 years :-)

    Help..

Congrats. Glad to know that you got this figured out with a good fix. It's always nice to know that the equipment is right so that you can spend your time with the fishing.

    Plywood top to Bench Seat

but why add plywood in the first place? The stuff is heavy, it rots over time, and it is not necessary in order to secure your seats. If you just must add something try this on page 40ish: https://www.akmccallumco.com/pdf/ma.pdf

    Removing Painted on Boat Letters

It's a little hard to understand how paint removal is such a big issue. Don't you think removal of paint depends on the type of paint used? So, get some stripper, buy some sandpaper, chip at it with a knife. Why don't you use some elbow grease and then take a picture and impress us with what a...

    OB Jets on 1448's?

Nice looking set up Lonedrake. Interesting how similar our two boats are but also how different they are too. Mine is also a 1448 with a Yamaha 40/30. Console and steering wheel up front with both of us sitting side by side. If I try to have my passenger sit back at the rear bench it will not...

Mercury 60/40 4 Stroke 4800 RPM WOT right?

There may be a connection to the heat and high humidity that you're experiencing but your 4800 RPM is not that far off what you should normally expect which should be around 5000 RPM. You could drive yourself crazy (and broke) trying to squeek that last 100-200 RPM out of the motor or you can...

    OB Jets on 1448's?

And since this is a post about "OB Jets on 1448's" your post must have been put here on this thread by mistake, right?

    Steering wheel conversion

While not all steering units are created equal you will not find any that equal a stick steer for response and speed of turning. So, like most every thing: you can't have your cake and eat it too.

    2009 40 hp Mercury 4-stroke low RPMs

You guys are probably right in suggesting SeaFoam as a first option. Seems like I never get lucky enough to have a can of additive take care of mechanical problems though. I use Stabil in my fuel for ethanol and SeaFoam as a preventative just in case. I also run an external fuel/water filter...

Thanks for the link. Lots of good info in there.

    OB Jets on 1448's?

I totally agree with you on the HP limit tags. My 1448 has a plate that specifies 25hp but that is with the original hull. Since the transom has been replaced and hugely strengthened, the motor is remotely steered instead of tiller, and it will soon have flotation pods on the stern, that 25hp...

    2009 40 hp Mercury 4-stroke low RPMs

With the motor sitting unused for some years it is likely to never run properly until all of the rubber parts in the engine are replaced. Fuel lines and vacuum lines are subject to rotting just due to temp changes. Even if the motor was prepared for storage this will probably have to be done...

    OB Jets on 1448's?

I don't doubt that for a moment Redrum. What was the horsepower limit on that hull?

    Kipawa Trolling Motor Prop Review

Thanks for your post Jonah. I'll be looking for one of these before the day is over. I'm in agreement that MinnKota is missing the boat on their props.

    Minn Kota Edge prop question...

I bought one with the "ears" to use as a replacement when the other becomes unusable. Tried it out and think I'm just going to buy another regular one and keep the ears for an emergency since my experience is the same as you report. The ears may be better for heavy weeds but I typically don't...

    Quick transome replacement ques

What reason would you have to not seal the edges of the plywood? Sealing the edges seems like a no brainer to me.

Need a reason to tie your boat down??? Watch this (4 mins)

Just yesterday on the ramp: guy backs 4X8 utility trailer into the water and drives jet ski up on flat plywood floor. No tie down, no back gate, nothing. Puts truck in gear, pulls 5 ft up the ramp, and shifts into second gear leaving jet ski sliding/bouncing back down the ramp. He pulls up the...
