    Earthquake

DId any of you folks in the Northeast feel the earthquake? Of course they are a more frequent occurrence here in the West, but a 4.8 magnitude would definitely get my attention. Thankfully, from the news so far, no damage has been reported. .

Not really a hobby but sometimes things come off the grill looking and tasting good.

Ran across this in the photo file. Days like this it doesn't matter if I catch anything.

    H-Bird Software Update

Got the email about updating the software on my Helix 7. Included a video showing how. Pretty easy. Download the update. Move it to, in my case, a micro SD card. Restore defaults on the Helix. Put the card in and the update happens. Except it didn't. Nothing happened. The instruction...

    Lake Berryessa

The wind made us leave the big lake to a better protected canyon area. Water temp 52.5 deg's. Caught the bigger one trolling 20' deep, which was kind of a surprise. The others were caught on a rapala minnow trolled on a flat line. No action along the shores. Everything in deep water...

Hello, my name is Ldubs and I'm addicted to tin boats.

    Towing with Smaller SUV

With the number of grandkids Mrs Ldubs says it is time to get an 8 passenger SUV. But, it has to be on the smaller side so she is comfortable driving. One option, which would save us a ton of money, is to trade in my RAM. I like the RAM but realistically am at a stage in life where I don’t...

    Just for fun

How many rods do you have on the boat for a typical day of fishing? I have four that stay on the boat permanently.

    Forum Technical Issues

Not sure where else to post this. For several days I've been experiencing strange issues when using TinBoats.net. I frequently see strange throbber/loading icons only when using TB's site. When this happens, page updates take forever. Today I noticed strange symbols pop up momentarily...

    Wax On Wax Off

Not that I don't have enough to keep me busy. Are you guys putting any kind of paste wax or something on your outboards to protect the paint? Is it worthwhile? What do you use?

    Dash Cam Mount

Anyone have a dash cam and care to share what kind of mount do you use? I'll be using a GoPro. I'm a little reluctant to use the suction cup ones (my dash isn't smooth).

    Heavy traffic

See these guys pretty often, but this is the first time I've seen 7 come trooping through. Must have been rush hour.

    Installed a Tachometer

Well, I finally got around to installing the tach. I couldn't tell which wires were what color. Got Mrs Ldubs to confirm the gray and black/yellow wire pigtails at the remote. Reads pretty close to the idle spec's with motor running on the muffs. I'll see how it reads at higher rpm's next...

Impact of Prop Pitch on Trolling Speed

Because I'm curious and asking dumb questions doesn't bother me. Suppose the following: 1. Idle RPMs are correct and at idle the boat speed is 2.3 mph. 2. With the current prop the motor is running below the WOT specified RPMs. 3. Prop is replaced with a lower pitch one to raise the...

    Fishfinder Display

Helix 7 sonar view. This is an old pre-CHIRP unit. That clutter between about 25' & 40" was on the screen consistently no matter where I was on the lake. Also the less consistent one between 10' & 20'. I've not seen something like that before. I did a reset and it was still there. And, I...

    Flathead Lake Montana

My first time on a pontoon boat while visiting my son in Missoula Montana. We rented this 22' pontoon boat. Brand was "Bentley". Powered by a 150HP Suzuki. Placard says it up to 12 people. We had plenty of room for our four adults and two grandkids. Pontoon boats are a lot of fun.
