Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Jet skis, eat huge amounts of gas for their size, so do go fast boats, so if you think cost is a factor that seems to fly in the face of cost. I'm just getting back into boating after nearly a 10 year layoff, so I can report locally in a few months as to how busy the waters are. For now as...

Closed loop cooling O/B or Mud motor

I just came across this brand in another forum. For you guys that fish the swamps and back bays, this could be for you. It's expensive as hell, but with closed loop cooling it's interesting. https://www.freedom-outboard.com/motors.cfm

    What year?

The number at the top right is the Yamaha model number and year. The number denotes the outboard's HP, and the last letter denotes the outboard's year of manufacture. In the picture above, the F225TXRC outboard's 225 means it's 225HP and it was manufactured in 2004. So as a guess, yours is a 2002.

    NGK BUHW2- vs - Champion L78V

If you can search google from other countries, maybe you can buy it elsewhere and have them shipped.

What have you been up to lately?

Well I hope I don't do anything sink worthy, but it's as easy as leaving out the drain plug, so you never know.

Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

As a kid, I just tied a length of rope around my engine and hoisted it up off the boat in the water using a block and tackle fastened to the railing of the upper dock. Shady by real standards but it never let me down.

Pleasure cruising / light fishing..with two old 14' boats, and one motor..

That new 6 HP will sip gas @ WOT figure on .5 gal an hour. But it will never get you on plane, you'll be bushing a lot of water and stressing the eng if you want to make any time at all. If content moving along @ 5 mph you'll sip gas at .3 gal an hour. With the used 15, you can still go 5 MPH...

    What is this boat?

Let's hope it's wood free or at least dry and not rotten. If you know a LEO they might be able to run the old reg numbers and get some info.

What have you been up to lately?

There aren't many, if memory serves me right there are either 2 or 4 at the stern and that's it. I'll have to rough it.

What have you been up to lately?

It's a four Winns HD8. 26.5', 300 HP Merc V8 on the back. I sold our summer home back around 2016, my daughter now 14 was reminiscing about the house and the boat especially. I originally wanted a 14' tinner. But hearing her pine over the memories I broke down. We went to Indiana and looked at a...

Just purchased this badboy, waiting for the dealer to get her water ready.

    What is this boat?

IDK, but you'd better replace everything below the waterline before you wet her.

Transom bolts - what kind to use?

What do you mean by years? 1-2 years or 10-20 years? I would not want to leave a tin boat in the salt day and night untreated for a few years straight. When I had my tin, it was all of 80 pounds and I took the engine off every Sunday and pulled the boat up onto the dock. Next Friday it went back...

Transom bolts - what kind to use?

When I beefed up my transom as a kid, we first used whatever we had laying around. As a kid all you want is to be on the water, all else be damned. 2 years later when the bolts were showing obvious signs of rust, we swapped them out for SS bolts and whatever kind of sealant there was in the late...

Transom replacement, curved to straight question

It's set that way to accommodate a short shaft outboard. If you go straight across your outboard will sit too high and you'll have performance issues galore. At least that's how I see it. If going straight across is easier, do so but cut out a notch where the engine will sit. From what I see...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Bear this in mind, when turning you may well find out it is unsafe. You will have too much "rudder" in the water and turns will be sharper than normal. Get a jack plate or, beef up the back of the boat with wood. you can use a 1/2" plywood on the outside another on the inside of the transom and...

    Yamaha 25hp 14ft semi-V rpm range question

If you damaged the prop, get it repaired or replaced. If it's a nick don't fuss over it. If you get 5,900 RPM with a light load IMO you are propped right or as near to perfect as you can. Adding the Mrs. drops your RPM down to 5,500, you are still fine, but I agree, things sound better at 6K...

    New / Retread from WA.

I still hold a grudge against my ex GF for taking all the vacation pics when we broke up. That was a fantastic time! I was on a smallish power boat and had the time of my life, can't imagine being in a canoe!

    What is a Jon Boat?

In my lay opinion, a Jon boat is a small aluminum flat bottomed hulled boat with a squared off bow. Plastic ones, while essentially the same, don't qualify IMO. Perhaps a wooden boat will but there just aren't many around to even discuss anymore. If it has a V at the bow, it's not a Jon, if the...
