Need lower unit for Johnson 48 SPL (1993 model)

Well, good news. I located a full parts motor with low compression. paid $700 total which included new water pump, pressure check, and oil change. I'm happy with this outcome all things considered. took it out for a lake test and everything worked smoothly! one intriguing thing is that this...

Need lower unit for Johnson 48 SPL (1993 model)

thanks for clarifying on the 50. i have heard that these engines were known for wearing out the lower units. i just can't believe the price of new outboards! just glad this happened at the dock before i took the boat out to open water.

Need lower unit for Johnson 48 SPL (1993 model)

Well, i guess the cast aluminum finally gave out. Last time i took it out i had to go further into reverse to get it to engage. then today it blew up. i am not sure how it got contaminated. IF ANYONE HAS A USED LOWER UNIT FOR ONE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW...

    1997 Fisher Freedom 200 restoration

Great project. I don't know anything about Fisher. What kind of outboard? Look up the seaark big easy. I think you need a dining table right in the middle. And for sure a big shade bimini!

Poorly neglected boat, bringing her back to service

Even if he didn't ruin it, it should be replaced unless he knows when it was last done. Period! Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

Do you own, or consider owning a jump starter?

I got the noco model on sale. Keep it in the truck. And take it with me in the boat. My smaller boat has a pull start backup! Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

1988 Alumacraft Pro17 - needs pretty much everything

Nice progress. You could take the lower unit off if you need to replace the water pump and reduce some weight for moving it around. Watch your toes and fingers! Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

    Johnson 48 SPL Reverse "Lock"

I finally got some pics. Cable is toast but I don't know how it works if the tilt assist is junk. Any ideas on where the other end should connect? I think I am out of luck with reverse/tilt lock. Reversing off the trailer is a pain watching the prop jump out of the water! Sent from my SM-G973U...

Anyone ever tried mounting the motor slightly off-center?

I would shift other weight before I moved the motor. If it's a clamp on motor then doesn't hurt to try. I'd be hesitant to drill new transom holes. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk

1988 Alumacraft Pro17 - needs pretty much everything

That motor looks like a gem. Keep it for sure. I'm 99% certain that oil is unburned 2 stroke especially if the motor was never run above idle (avoid the temptation to open up the throttle while running in a barrel). I prefer to use my live well as a bait well with a small bait net. I hate to...

    Motorguide xi3

Spend some money on a cover and don't worry about it. And congrats on the new motorguide. I love my pinpoint. I haven't added the optional foot pedal but may consider it. I recommend the quick disconnect trolling motor mount. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
