1989 Yamaha 40 HP 3 cylinder 2 stroke oil injected.

I'm going to do the "Dunks" sea foam cocktail method and see what happens. Are you advising to mix a few ounces into my normal tank afterwards in addition to the oil injection? Maybe 100:1 in the tank? I bought new plugs, suppose I should wait to install after all of this and I am back to...

1989 Yamaha 40 HP 3 cylinder 2 stroke oil injected.

Symptoms Bogging/sluggish under load Suspect fuel/carb issue Also Clanking/tapping at low and mid RPM. Almost sounds like flywheel hitting starter gear but noise comes from crankcase. Doesn't do it at idle, or at WOT. Could just be drowing out the noise though at high RPM. Suspect piston...

    Ventilation VS Bow Dig

Yeah I thought I just had a weak trim setup, but turns out the unit is "tilt only" and was never intended to be able to raise the engine underway. My local dealer didn't even know the answer, I actually called Yamaha customer service and they confirmed it in addition to a few posts I found...

    Ventilation VS Bow Dig

Okay here is the motor trimmed (tilted) down, this position results in no ventilation, solid holeshot and quick to get on plane. Downside is the bow digs into the water and top end suffers horribly not to mention all the water spraying up in my face. Here is the engine tilted up to the point...

    Ventilation VS Bow Dig

I'll snap some pictures on my lunch break. Not that this video is helpful to the conversation, but here is a quick video of me running it yesterday, just for the heck of it. https://streamable.com/dul5b

    Ventilation VS Bow Dig

Okay thanks lol Maybe this deserves a new thread, but here is my next issue. Outboard tilted too far up- cavitation/ventilation during holeshot and turning. But on plane going straight, it performs well. Outboard tilted too far down- Jumps on plane well, but bow digs pretty bad...water...

    Ventilation VS Bow Dig

I feel kinda dumb chasing down a problem that might not even exist.....This outboard is power tilt only, correct? And if so, is it supposed to be able to lift the motor up while underway (throttle down, moving)? Works fine on in idle or with a little throttle, but not strong enough to lift...

My work gave me an aluminum shelving unit for free that was in a service van.

    Raising transom for long shaft

Yeah I agree with that logic and also about the headache lol. I still don't really know the answer, honestly my setup has too many new variables to blame the digging on the transom raise. -I also moved my console (my 200# body) 24" forward -I removed weight -Not sure of the angle my last...

    Raising transom for long shaft

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add my experiences concerning raising the point of contact on the transom will contribute to the bow digging. In my experience it DOES - but not drastically. It would be an issue if I did not have power trim. Here is my new setup

Gotcha. I checked out your jet jon build, looks like a blast. Small shallow rivers are where I really want to be and plan on getting one of those blazer boats with the outboard jets someday.

Yeah I should have planned the lid out better to accommodate a latch. I do have something in mind though if they rattle. Got my new steering cable today. I measured as per teleflex instructions but ended up a bit long. Have 12' but 11' would have done the job. I'll see what I can do with slack...

The outboard came from the deep lakes of the Madison, WI area. We will see how that prop looks after a season of river running haha Thanks for the compliments guys, I need it from here since my wife doesn't seem to appreciate all the hard work lol. Got the controls mounted over lunch break...

Thanks man I appreciate it. Yeah that Yamaha is from 1989 which is the newest outboard I have owned to date. I am excited to have power tilt/trim. It's oil injected and carborated. 3 cylinders and 3 carbs. I kicked around the idea of disabling oil injection but decided against it. Most of...

Polarkraft 1848 from the 70's I think. This all started b/c I found a deal on a used outboard, but I had to raise the transom to accommodate the long shaft. I found an aluminum shelving unit that I was able to cut up and bolt together. While doing that I decided I wanted to move the...
