I have done this with a 12 and 14 boat.I would suggest putting it back a little bit from the bow if possible. You can buy gas line at menards here in Michigan and make your own.
I just picked up the exact same boat and will be restoring it at some point, maybe sooner than later. Are you planing on adding a steering console or going tiller?
Even out your weight distrubution and that might help. I have a 14ft flatbottom with a 20 horse johnson that used to do the same but after I added a casting deck and moved my gas tank to the bow the problem went away.
I finally traced my outboard problems to a stripped spark plug receptical , I plan on installing a helicoil to fix the problem but I'm not sure what size I need. The motor is a 1970 johnson 20hp seahorse model # 20R70E. Any help is appreciated.
