    Wood or Aluminum

I used snap down marine cushions by OceanSouth on my wood seats - they’re great! OceanSouth has a website or you can find some on Amazon. There’s a variety of sizes & colors. Mine have held up well…...

Social Security Cost of Living Increase!?

Every year the COLA is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), an inflation measure tracked by the U.S. Department of Labor. The SSA compares the CPI-W for July, August and September of one year to the same period the year before. The...

How’s the weather been this boating season in your area?

In Florida, I’m feeling more hopeful each day! At the start of the summer it was predicted to be one of the busiest hurricane seasons in history. But it’s been quite the opposite, so far… There’s been lots of opportunities to get out on the water, and minimal storm threat. I’m not ready to count...

    Boating Etiquette

As true so often in life, I think the Golden Rule applies. In any situation like that where I wonder what I should do, I simply imagine what I’d want if I were in their shoes. A good habit to practice I think… To me, exercising courtesy feels good! If that’s being a “Karen”, I could give a sh&t! 🙂

First time boat owner with a few questions

It’s how I was able to get my boat to stop porpoising. I tried a few different angled wedges until I got it zeroed in…

First time boat owner with a few questions

I really like having a jack plate! I used tree cutting wedges (green) to get my motor trimmed right. I especially like having the space on the interior transom for mounting my boat hook & dive ladder. I also run with my fuel cell up front for balance…

    Mirrocraft

From the looks of the picture, $500 is practically a giveaway for that rig! I’d say it’s a dream starting point for a project boat! Good luck, we look forward to seeing more…

Where to Find Aluminum Transom Cap

Aside from finding a source of standard stock that would work for you, I’m sure that a local metal fabricator could cut and crease an aluminum piece that would work… When restoring my old tiny, my local fabricator was essential for several replacement pieces. For example, I had a fabricator make...

    Outboard pre-start warm up… Harmful?

The motor is a 2022 with about 120 hours on it. I’ve had it serviced every 50 hours. It runs great and has never not started. It’s more a personal issue - our boat ramps are crazy busy on the weekends (I still work all week) with lots of inpatient folks. So I try to be prepared and quick. I have...

    Outboard pre-start warm up… Harmful?

I have a 4-stroke 9.9 Yamaha. I have a routine, when doing my pre-ramp preparations, of doing a quick start on my motor that lasts no more than 2 seconds - just enough to know the motor will start easily in the water. I kill it immediately after coming to life. I do this with the boat on the...

    Totally Exhausted

I like your attitude, LDUBS! I have a reputation amongst my kids and wife as being a grandpa that instigates stuff! I call it good trouble! Lol I have 9 grand kids and the oldest is only 9 years old! The first 4 were boys, at which time I told all my kids “that’s enough grandsons, we need...

hull creased just in front of transom: fix or not?

Honestly, until this week, it’s been unseasonably dry and hot! Last week temps averaged around 100°. Orlando hit a high of 106°. So far this year, the state has seen quite a bit of tornado damage… The rain this week in South Florida is actually closer to normal Florida weather during this time...

hull creased just in front of transom: fix or not?

I don’t know… I’d be awfully darn tempted to at least clean out under that flange, tap it down with the end of a 2x4, and then seal the entire edge of the flange. But I admit, I have a hard time leaving things alone - and I’ve suffered the consequence on occasion!

    72 StarCraft Aluminum Boaters

Do you have a title for this boat? I acquired my 1974 StarCraft with a title, but missing the HIN plate on the stern. Florida requires a HIN plate for 1972 and newer. I was able to get the original HIN# from the title and order a replacement plate from Amazon.

    Bimini Top

It looks that way, and that’s what all the nearby campers thought too! lol. But it’s actually on an anchor loop that allows the boat to be pulled into shore to load/unload, and then out for mooring. If you look closely, you can see there is a continuous line from the bow, down to an anchor...

hull creased just in front of transom: fix or not?

I’ll be curious to hear the opinions of others with your dilemma… first and foremost, I would re-rig the trailer to avoid further damage. Ideally, you want bunks supporting the boat all the way to the transom, with the bunks extending at least an inch or more beyond the transom, keeping the...

    Bimini Top

Bought mine from Amazon for I think around $125. Going on two years, still in great shape. But I always keep the boot on when down, and a boat cover when sitting on the trailer.
