    Transom wood question

I agree, except for the oak. I used red oak on a transom and did not hold up. Warped badly and splits along grain. It did look good for the first couple of years. Plywood is the right choice.

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

If you scrutinize our fishing pictures, you would see my son prefers the inflatable and I, a kayak life vest. The kayak vest allows for 360 arm movement.

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

During our spring fishing, it was normal for us. Basicly we are the only boat out there. Occasionally, one or two others. The fall we will see more boats, and seen a few new jets, the last year. Now, when they have the catfish derby weekend contest, it is a $hit show. People in bathtubs to...

Transom replacement, curved to straight question

The top cap on any wooden transoms I've had, was thin and just protection from rain and scuffing/wear of installing motors on/off.

    Filling old drill holes?

I’ve used pop rivets on interior holes where I have removed or moved things. For holes thru the hull, like you have, I’d look toward bucking rivets. You won’t end up with protruding nuts, etc to catch on something. Ie no welder here. If you do use bolts, try to get aluminum ones or SS. A...

    Bass Tracker trailer

I can tell you not to bother trying to get a replacement COO from Tracker. My son tried for a couple of years, with numerous promises but no results.

Closed loop cooling O/B or Mud motor

Looks like an expensive science project, especially the mud motor.

Do I really "need" a casting deck?

Fishing, standing on the floor or even sitting on the bench of a 1236, will feel like a luxury compared to sitting in a kayak. Farther casting, better hooksets, and easier landing. It is a small and narrow boat, so recommend carefully standing on your bench seat to see how stable you feel...

    Timing

Now, a timing light I do have and even know where it is! :D That was needed on the 350 Mercruiser. I'd guess it could still be used to find a missing cylinder. Now that I think of it, the rpm meter I used, is also the dwell meter. That is, if the function knob still works. :D

    Timing

I almost forgot what points were for! :D I probably still have a dwell meter buried on some shelf, though.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Yes, adjust the trim tab to compensate for the pull. Manual should tell you which way to adjust. Raising the motor might help a little with the planing time, might not. Mostly it will be a gain of a few mph of top speed. A lower pitch prop will help with planing time, but need a tach to...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

FWIW: Started the 3rd season on the 20aH Li battery that I use for the depth finder. On a recent three day fishing trip, forgot to recharge it after the 2nd day. It went about 3/4 of the day before the BMS shut it down. The finder draws 0.9A/hour, so still have the full capacity.

    NGK BUHW2- vs - Champion L78V

My Nissan/Tohatsus like NGK, but they were also spec'ed for them. NGK ran great in my 350 Mercruiser as well. Its been a while, but Evinrude/Johnsons I've had liked the Champions.

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Agree with Thill, test it. It is probably going to run fine with the 1" blocks. Going to flush may pick you up some mph, but might cause problems when turning. Many mfgs recommend 1" below. My 10HP Sportwin sits like that on both boats I've used it on. To go higher than the 1" blocks, can...

    Post Eclipse Season Start

Well, todays fishing was called due to too many aches and pains from the prior three days! ;) And the weather was turning colder with rain. Monday and Tuesday started with frost on the ground, and made for some cold boat rides, but the sun warmed things up quickly. Tuesday the wind became...

    Tin Walleye set ups

When I fished more for walleye, it was mostly jigging. I've seen some of the trolling rigs set-up with side planners, etc, and they can get elaborite, and probably be a tight fit on a 12'er. I'm guesing you are looking more at a two rod crankbait trolling and maybe back-trolling worm/leach rigs?
