Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

The only way to sell a motor here is piece by piece on eBay. Boats go cheap. I'll buy just about any small motor for under $50, I break them down to every last bolt and list them. Even a junk motor will part out over a grand most of the time. The same guy who won't pay $300 for a running used...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

For me, since NJ doesn't allow gas motors in non tidal water with the exception of a few larger lakes, I tend to only run a big trolling motor. Most freshwater here is shallow without any current so even a 28 lb thrust motor will get your around just fine. Most ponds here are only a few acres at...

    Newbie showing a find

I had one with a 135hp on it and it was fine. You will find that the older 115 is the same actual output as a newer 90hp made after 1984. (Net vs Total HP ratings changed). I did upgrade mine for a bit from the 135 to a late 90's 115 and there was no change in power or weight, other than I...

    What a day... (Long Rant)

It sounds like a solid fix to me. I've fixed a few with broken transom gussets the same way, either using angle or U channel to replace what was there. On my old Starcraft, someone had run it with an oversized motor for years with a rotten transom and cracked all three of the gussets. I bent up...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

That motor could be a hell of a deal or just parts but its priced so cheap it don't matter. No title is a no sale for me unless I have a title laying around for the same boat. It all goes back to NJ trying to collect back registration from people when they didn't use their boat for years. Its...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

I'd rather buy a motor that the seller hasn't tried to run than one that he's been running dry on the stand not knowing it needs water. I can't count how many motors I've gone to look at where the seller just fired it up and revved the snot out of it right there bone dry. Or the guy who runs a...

    What is this?

I've run across a few of those Mariner motors locally over the past few years. They seem to pop up in two flavors. either black with the silver cover, basically just a Mercury built by Tohatsu with a Mariner cover and a different set of numbers, or all gray with Mariner decals but with a Yamaha...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

A few of those on that list are Euro spec motors, particularly the Mariner models. Unlike the US sold models they are often Yamaha built units, which in my opinion is a better motor. I have two myself, one that came to me from a guy who moved here from near Munich, Germany, the other was left...

    Millennium Seats.....Worth the price?

A buddy of mine down in FL put four of them in his older bass boat, he had three in a row as the only seating in the boat, plus one behind the console, all mounted on aluminum pedestals. We took turns that day at different positions around the boat. At one point we were passing under a short...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

Its crazy to think that anyone would sell something they can't replace for two, three or even four times the price they're asking, then it just sits for months with no takers. The scene on the water seems to tell it all, they can't afford to go boating, they can't afford to buy the boat, they...

    Trolling motor, how much thrust?

Way back when I had my first bass boat it came with a 36lb thrust 24v set up, it was fine for moving around the shallows or holding position but useless as real propulsion, and it ate batteries. When I moved to NJ, they don't allow gas motors in freshwater ponds, so I needed to run the trolling...

    Honda 9.9hp value?

That's a good example of what goes one here on CL and FB these days. The same guy who lists a motor for dirt cheap obviously can't look on the very same site and find a good used motor. I see a dozen of them for under $100 in the same area. Glad someone got a deal though. It would be a tough...

    Mirrocraft

That's the same trailer my Lake Fisherman came on back in the day. Those runabout models are pretty scarce these days, I see 200 Starcraft boats to every Mirrocraft around here. The closest I came to getting one was a really rough example that was for sale over near Philadelphia about 15 years...

    Missing aluminum boat

My 1999 Starcraft has styrofoam in it, each seat is filled but the rear seat has a full length livewell cut into it from the factory, the mid seats are a split bench, so only a 9x12x8 chunk in the right side and a battery box in the left, and the front bench, about 39" wide has a solid full...

    Honda 9.9hp value?

There's a 9.9hp Honda on CL right now for $250. It been up for the better part of a year, the seller renews the ad every month. Its about an hour from me here. I called the owner and after a dozen emails back and forth I finally got a phone number to call. Its shown hanging on a board nailed...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

I wouldn't doubt it. The one dealer here told everyone that they needed to buy blue, MAC Maximizer tool boxes, either two or three bank units and they had 6 months to make the change. It was all after they had a bunch of smaller 26" wide tool boxes stolen. The thought was that bigger boxes...

How to fill small hole in back of transom?

At least on most jon boats the transom wood doesn't cover the full transom, so structure wise its rarely an issue. I'd have some concerns about doing the double panel type repair like that, water and contaminants can get trapped in between the old and new panels and cause corrosion as well...

Need help finding rivets, Tracker Grizzly 1648

If this helps, here's a few links I saved over the years when rebuilding a few old boats. The rivets used in aircraft are the same type used in most boats. Most aluminum boats have 3/16" rivets with the occasional 1/4" rivet. Loose fitting rivets must be drilled out to the next size. When...

Where do most people go to sell a used aluminum boat these days?

I used to think the same thing but most of those Is it still available are now followed by "Send me your phone number" or 'I need your address for my Shipper' . I started listing on FB in 2020 during the shutdown, I listed about 100 items or so and sold zero. It was a crapshoot between...

How to fill small hole in back of transom?

Sand it clean around the hole, then use JB Weld to fill the hole and feather it out around the edges. That hole looks like corrosion, I'd want to get a better look at the inside of that transom to see how bad its corroded. Now is the time to stop it before its too far gone. 3M 5200 urethane...
