Pink/blue foam - what about white foam?

go to a different supply yard that has XPS sheets

    motor eight

you can figure this out yourself by using the USCG formula which factors in both weight and horsepower of the motor, plus you'd have the added benefit of being legal if ever checked (which nobody cares about on here) here's a good link for how to do the math (it's easy)...

Will's Starcraft Part 2: Freshwater to Saltwater!

make sure you have somebody taking a video when you try out a poling platform on that 12'

Need Your Thoughts - 20hP motor on 16foot

my de-restricted honda 9.9 (~13.5 hp) pushes my 16' duranautic (deep V) to 19 mph with just me aboard. runs 13 with two other fishermen. no problems planing. you will be perfectly fine with a 20 hp, as long as you match the prop correctly. with lower horsepower motors on bigger boats, it is...

Do you use the kill switch cord?

view the results for an image search for -->"boat propeller injury" (NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART, maybe NSFW) and you will never run without your kill switch properly attached again. to me, it's just as important as a seatbelt in the car or a helmet on the motorcycle. the only outboard that i...

    Need help tuning setup

sounds like you might need to change prop pitch. put a tach on the motor and see if it's running up into the correct WOT RPM range. if you don't have a tach, you can get one on amazon for $25.

    Weldbilt 1652v duck/family boat build

boat looks good, but better get to work! :LOL2: don't know when your duck opener is, but we opened yesterday here in NJ! it's not your fault man. the forum software running this site is too dumb to pay attention to the orientation flags (EXIF data) that modern cameras and smartphones use to...

    Is this corrosion?

the XPS boards (blue, pink, or green insulation boards) that most people on here are using today are the same material as styrofoam (they are both polystyrene); it's just a different manufacturing method (extrusion) which results in a solid piece rather than the little foam beads. either can...

    Removing thru-hull drain tubes?

they are swaged (expanded) in place so the easiest way to get them out is to crush them back down a bit so they fit back through the hole to do that, stick a sawzall through the drain and make a few slices from the inside almost through the wall of the drain tube to the rest of the transom...

    Floor material?

i use that stuff (mostly from political signs, etc) for free target holders at the range. i really don't think it will hold up to being walked on though.

    Sylvan Offshore 22'

awesome you will have a great time with that boat. love the toterhome too, got a link to some more pics or a build thread on that?

    Sylvan Offshore 22'

i think that's a hell of deal you just got there. that trailer alone would probably fetch 700-1000$ out here. good stuff, keep us posted on your progress, i love seeing the bigger tins.

    Jet Sled Rebuild

i know it's probably what you were trying to avoid, but you need to put some screws from the inside of the hull into that transom saver. 3m 5200 is not suitable for bonding polyethylene (HDPE's what that cutting board is made of). if you look at the specifications, they actually list the shear...

    16' Stardraft motor capacity?

16' is the best size for NJ freshwater. big enough for comfort, but can still get 15 mph with a 9.9 or 20+ with a "9.9" on the horsepower restricted reservoirs. if it had been posted when i was looking for a 16', i definitely would have checked that boat out.

DeSoto Mfg. 1415 Jon Boat modification/restoration.

that's silly, why not? i watched a golf launch a 18' catamaran at lake hopatcong yesterday... your tin would be no problem for it. they tow with cars like that all the time in europe. it's only over here that everyone thinks you need a V8 to get your boat to the launch.

    Issues getting boat on plane

yeah if you don't mind swapping the props out that makes things easier. i'd second the suggestion of the four blade for the heavier load then.

    Issues getting boat on plane

prop changes can be easily calculated, but we need more info first. what motor do you have? we need to know the WOT RPM range and the lower unit gear ratio what RPM are you running wide open w/ just two people? if you don't have a tach, get a tinytach and measure, important 28 mph is your max...
