What is the benefit of using the new, really expensive crank and swim baits? I just can't see the need to use a bait that costs 10, 15, 25 dollars, except for use as a status symbol. Are they really that much more effective?

I guess this fits in this category...I am thinking about getting a used square-stern canoe. The reason is that I wouldn't have to fool with a trailer, and have been offered a Lowe canoe, 17 foot, which I think would pair up nicely with my B&S 5 horse motor. What do the members think about this...

Does anyone have any experience with the air-cooled B&S 5 hp outboards? I have a chance to get one new for a good price, and was wondering if anyone had experience with these motors....dependability, power, etc. It would go on a basic 12 - 14 foot boat.
