    Bedtime reading

I wouldnt worry about not knowing, you're going the right way about it by reading up. Being within sight of land is no guarantee nothing will happen. Less than a foot of water can drown you and being with "swimming distance" of shore doesn't mean you will get there. I'm search and rescue and...

Hauling a Jon boat without a trailer

No, I didn't. The idea was the point, not that it was on a trailer. It could easily be adapted to a roof rack system. Which is essentially what was on that trailer. I could just as easily say you missed my point. Plus its cheap, easy to use and home made. Not only that, after making an...

    8hp 1989 Johnson how fast?

Difficult to say. Every boat and load is different. But if it gets on plane, I'd estimate somewhere in the 10-15 mph range. If it doesn't plane, somewhere around 8 mph. My 8 HP johnson gets my 12' springbok with only me in it on plane and I'd guess around 14-15 mph. Put a second 200lb guy in...

Uh oh, I've gone and done it now ....

I use mine in salt also. Atlantic ocean to be exact. After use, fresh water flush the engine well. Then fresh water rinse the hull well. If you get salt water in the boat flush that well also. My boat is a 12' springbok with an 8 HP johnson. Both vintage 1989. Majority has been salt use...

    Gas can distance from Motor

The length of the run can make a difference sometimes. Friction in the tubing and whatnot. You can sometimes get around a longer run (if causing problems) if you can go up a size in tubing. As long as you're using an OEM length hose you prob won't run in to troubles. Longer than than you'll...

1232 Jon with 8 hp Johnson

My 12' springbok (aka: princecraft) is rated for a 15 HP. I have an 89 8hp johnson on it right now and it moves along quite smartly on plane.

    YJs 1236 Semi V Mod

A month after priming is just fine. Just make sure the paints are compatible or the primer may shrink if the top coat is the wrong type. Google will turn up lots of info on it and you've got a month to research it.....here's a good start: https://www.duplicolor.com/faq/ Bon chance!

Mine did. Top coat within a certain period of time or let dry for "X" days before top coat. If the product gives direction then follow them. No one knows the product better than the manufacturer. :)

What do you do for a living? or Fun (boating not allowed)

Search and rescue. Although, after 24+ years retirement is coming very soon. About 6 more years and I'm done. Figure I'll retire and open a small engine shop in the back yard or something. Work in the summers, close up and head south in the winters.

Has anyone ever done this conversion to their boat?

Oh I dunno. Its not that bad of an idea, but it would have pretty specific applications. For example: you have a portage from one lake to get to another. Drop the wheels, roll it over the bar/bank road/whatever and drop it into the lake no one else can get to. Might make it do able to get to...

    painting galvanized?

Before: After: I hit it with a wire brush (just a hand held one) to knock the loose dirt and scale off. Then a tremclad metal primer paint, then black tremclad rust paint. The primer was required on top of galvanized as specified by the instructions on the tremclad black can. You can...
