How many spray cans did you use?

I'm redoing a v-bottom jon boat trailer, the boat is a 14' I'd guess the trailer about 20' tongue to tail. I included a photo. How many cans of spray paint do you think it'll take to coat it? I'd like to cover it in self etching primer first then burgundy, but I need an idea on how many cans of...

1956 Johnson Seahorse 10hp Tips please!

I don't have any pressure tanks, I have access to some really old gas cans that look exactly like the original tank, and I'm going to make it look like an original tank but function with a fuel pump because it won't actually be a pressurized tank. As far as the decals, I run a sign shop, and...

9.9 Max- can i go more HP?

What I'd do is research what 9.9's are actually 15's with a smaller carb, then put the bigger carb on. Possibly even bring it in to the shop to see if it can get bored over and get a bigger piston in it. This way the cowl still says 9.9, and you can run it on restricted lakes

Trailer rebuild Stage 1 (get it street legal and safe)

Don't worry, I have every intention of bringing this poor motor back from the hell the PO's put it through. She'll be pretty again soon, and well taken care of. 8)

1956 Johnson Seahorse 10hp Tips please!

I'm on iboats as well, same username. But with a question like this one I figured It would be best to post on both, you'll find a twin to this post on their johnson forum. I've found iboats has good information, but a slow forum, here there are more responses, and faster responses. I've heard...

1956 Johnson Seahorse 10hp Tips please!

I just bought a '56 seahorse, and my plan is to restore it over the winter. Where can I find a manual, paper or digital? Also what was the original color red and white used on the motor? My brother does auto body, and he can shoot it and do all the body work on the cowl to make it look perfect...

Trailer rebuild Stage 1 (get it street legal and safe)

No more progress yet, I picked up a motor for the boat, a 1956 Johnson Seahorse 10hp. Next week I'm going to Harbor freight and buying an angle grinder and wire brushes to strip the boat and trailer. I'm kicking around ideas on what to use to paint the trailer. I'm thinking of picking up a...

Trailer rebuild Stage 1 (get it street legal and safe)

I just bought a boat and trailer from family, and I'm starting the restoration process. Stage 1 involves getting the trailer street legal and safe. This involved taking off the risers that they covered with PVC, they were rusted out and needed bungee cords to hold it from flopping out into...

    Sandblasting your tin???

I'm thinking of sandblasting all the old junk off my boat, the previous owners have used several layers of putty, epoxy, goop whatever over the years to stop the rivets from leaking. Now all the old "fixes" are peeling up and leaking again. I'm going to fix all the leaks right. Also the old...

1955 Lonstar V Hull going to repaint after summer

I've been trying to ID my boat, it has no markings that I can find, but this looks like a dead ringer for it. I have to go check a few small details but it looks a lot like mine except My transom drops down a little. But that could be cut down from original.

How to fix leaky V-bottom seam?

I have yet to get it in the water to see exactly where the leak is. I've been told it's the rivets. Eventually I want the outside to get a coat of steelflex, but until then has anyone used this stuff around the rivets?

How to fix leaky V-bottom seam?

I'm buying a V-bottom from some family members, and it's known to leak a little from the bottom seam of the V. Other than having it welded what's a good fix? I was thinking marine epoxy putty the whole seam from the inside, but I'm worried about adhesion, and or cracking, but I've never worked...

    Tracker grizzly worth it?

Unless I missed it, they didn't post size. It could be a good deal, kinda depends on the size. Considering a 16' new one of these will easily run you 2x that price.

    I have devised a plan...

I was at BPS in ATL today drooling over a boat they had out front, a tracker 2072 That thing is HUGE. And I was SHOCKED at the low price, just under 5k for the hull, and a hair over 6k for the hull and trailer. It's a bare bones hull, one bench seat in the rear, and that's it, completely open...

    I have devised a plan...

But IMHO it's easier to spend money on each of those things one at a time as the project grows, than to spend it all out of pocket at once. And when I'm done it'll be a custom rig to my needs not a cookie cutter boat.

    I have devised a plan...

It's doable, you'll put in a lot of legwork. But I'm the same way, I refuse to pay too much just for the convenience of finding it easy.
