    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

the only difference on between the 20 and 25 in that year is the restricted intake hole from everything I have seen on the motors that I have had

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

if you add more fuel you have to add more air......hence the larger venturi on the 30-35 carb

    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

Do not think they made a 35hp in 1990.....and if they did it was likely a restricted 40-50hp. No the 40 and 50 had a larger and different block entirely...44 or 45ci I believe

Primer is probably fine........I had to pump mine 3-4 times always first time starting motor

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

Im guessing the mod has nothing to do with why it is acting up...or it would have happened right away. Could be something as simple as an air leak in the fuel tank line. But it does sound fuel/carb related. Small air leaks can cause havoc

    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

I can tell just by looking at the picture on ebay that....that is a 20-25hp intake, not the 30-35 you are looking for. And yes the 0391054 is the same thing as the 0396790. I am sure that the 0391054 is what I had on mine (sold boat and all last week). The 0396790 just replaced the 054 number...

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

Your welcome Siguz......and no, other than the carb and intake you are good to go. IT will actually make it a 30hp though. Not a 35

    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

Look at the first page closely and the pic of the 25 intake next to the 30/35 intake. Roughly a 1/4" larger opening all the way around. You can see the gasket line showing the size difference. Not to mention it is a deeper intake. It is a considerable volume increase considering the small size...

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

Is this how heavy your boat is the majority of the time or do you add more weight usually? Your numbers come out as follows.....(assuming you are doing 23.5mph still?) you gave RPM and no mph/kph reading so I am going to assume here. 10X13 prop (aluminum?), with a 2.15:1 gear ratio at 5295...

    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

They made a 2 cylinder and a 3 cylinder 30hp in 04' and as far as I know neither can be upgraded horsepower wise as they were both completely different motors than the 40hp motors above them. I am speaking about bolt on parts that is

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

if it was reading double than your motor would be running 4970rpm which makes sense and would give you a 17% slip ratio.....which is not great. Get a tiny tach and get a good reading. I can assure you that if you buy a 15 pitch you will lug that motor and toast it eventually. You are likely...

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

So you have an 89' 20hp which you turned into a 25hp correct. The 20 and 25hp have same recommended RPM range 4500-5500 RPM in that year. My advice would be to get real close to the 5500 RPM when you have the lightest load you typically run in your boat. And don't worry if you turn 5600-5800 it...

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

Correct ^^^^ I have this exact tach for my smaller motors and it works great and very easy to use and worth the $50 bucks or so. I bought mine off of ebay so I know you can get them in Canada.

1989 20 HP Johnson power upgraded to 25 HP for zero dollars

Ok hold up! I am sorry but I have to interject some knowledge here. First off the dolphin will not help top speed at all.....sorry. It helps keep boat on plane at lower speed and helps boat plane out, no top end increase. In fact it can do the opposite to top speed if not set up correctly...

    1980's Johnson/Evinrude 20/25hp conversion to 30hp with pics

Link and sync is the timing between the carbs and the timing advance as throttle is advanced. The carb and intake can be hard to find used, others have had issues with this also. Just keep searching ebay and other sites like it is all I can say. And the MARS edition was just a military...

    1988 Bluefin Sportsman 1900 rebuild

Thanks mac....well my project is on hold for a week and now I do not have to rush my rebuild. I kinda sorta bought another boat unintentionally  See I went to buy a 15hp johnson from a guy and when I showed up to his house he had 2 bluefin spectrums in his driveway....got to talking and...

    1988 Bluefin Sportsman 1900 rebuild

Well I got the new transom built. I used 2 pieces of 3/4 ACX 5 ply glued together and put on 4 coats or marine spar from Man O' War. I know some people prefer epoxy or poly but I have used spar before with very good results. It is a softer sealer but also expands and contracts very well with the...

    1988 Bluefin Sportsman 1900 rebuild

Thanks lokonn for the tips on removing the glue. Welcome to tin boats :) and happy late Bday . It must be something about us Aries that gravitate toward Bluefins

1996-97 40 hp Evinrude long shaft with PTT, what's it worth?

Without original paint it will not bring as much, but if it's in "good" condition.......1,000-1,400......very good condition 1,500-2,000 but a lot of that depends on location and supply and demand.

    1988 Bluefin Sportsman 1900 rebuild

Pulled the transom today.....what a stubborn SOB that was to get out. Darn rivet ends from the aluminum tag serial number toward the bottom of the transom inside the boat and on the outside top corner had ahold of it and I couldn't see it. But she came out in one piece non the less. Tomorrow I...
