Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

Just to give a little light on how i plan on putting this on. I gotta drill a few more holes to attach the wood to the overhang on the top. I dont need it adjustable. Call me old fashioned but i think this should do me just fine. I obviously need to put a piece of wood on there slightly larger...

That's radical. If it doesnt work out, put some wings on there and you got a 14' airplane.

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

Yeah there will be a piece of wood attached to the steel plate for the motor to clamp on to. Also i will have wood between the plate and the aluminum on the back of my boat.

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

The long/tall flat part of it is going against my transom, with the two bends running vertical, facing out towards the back. I will put a picture up tomorow of me holding it by hand. I plan on doing some grinding on my trailer and possibly my boat tomorrow. The purpose of this plate is only to...

    14 foot project.

That is my jack plate. I didnt want to set it back a few inches, and i made this at work... Which saved me 84$ at the least!

    14 foot project.

SO: here is my solution. Today at work i whipped this up. It's like .17something stainless steel. The aluminum we use at my place of business (misery..!) is very soft, so i decided to go with steel. It was 16x18 to start, put 2" bends on the sides of it for support. I know it would have been...

1975 Fisher Marine Bateau 1438 Mod -**NEW PICS OCT 16**

Dude. I am wow'd. That is a nice looking piece of floatery. This thread specifically answered many questions i had reguarding how to do my own rig. I really like the rod holder you've got going on there. I couldnt really come up with any conclusions on how to keep mine secure, and from...

    14 foot project.

Well, I have a new plan. I am going to deck the whole front half, with a rod locker extending on one side of the boat. Livewell and storage compartments, ive got it alllll planned out... :D ... and a lower floor in the back. I decided i am going to take the bench seats out. Every one of them...

Oh by the way, it is indeed a 14'. Its an old Alumacraft Model F. Im not sure what year. Quite old tho, im guessing 60s.

    14 foot project.

I made these at work today. They will be the bases for my pedestals of my seats.(saved me 100 bucks!) 7x7 Stainless steel, Tig welded a stainless steel tube on there. To test the welder's skill i had him do a mock up, and i smashed it with a hammer in a vice for a while. I beat the crap out of...

    What kind of wood?

Yeah, i have a fairly shallow boat. Its an old Alumacraft Model F. Im thinking im going to need to run 2 batteries in there too.. (fishfinder, trolling motor, and pumps.. etc) Im going to go with 3/8 plywood i think, cause I only weigh 160. So maybe the thin plywood will shave off a little...

    What kind of wood?

Yeah, that was kinda my plan running the 2x4s underneath forward back and side to side, in a cross, intersecting at the base of my seat. So they will be about 6 or 7 inches apart, depending on how big the base of my seat is. If i feel like i should or could get away with using 2x2s, i will just...

    What kind of wood?

Hi folks, I dont have a whole lot of background with a lot of this stuff.. (Am a young kid, go figure..) I used to work construction (laying brick) and took multiple metals classes in school, but only one woods class. Any types of wood i should avoid for my supports? I know pine is a much softer...

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

So to make this easy, i am going to just get a plate of aluminum (probably 1/4 or 3/8 thick) angled on the ends (for support) and mount it right on the back of my transom. I figure this will be the easiest way to approach it, and it should be plenty sturdy. Thinking it'll stick up like 5 inches...

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

I think im going to take the "tombstone" route, like the above two pictures. My only issue with that is: Im going to have to re-do my transom first, so i can measure how thick it is so the aluminum will sandwich it properly. I suppose if it lines up properly, i could use 2x2s (or whatever is...

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

Perfect, i work at a metal shop, and my dad is an engineer there. I'll have him engineer me something up soon. This is one of the few things that i can get done in the winter.. I noticed they all go back a few inches, anyone know if i could just make it go back a couple of inches, 1.5 or 2, and...

Long Shaft Motor, Shallow boat? what to do?

I have a 14 footer, it is a fairly shallow boat. My motor is a little bit too long, and i was wondering if there was any way i could get it a couple inches higher. Ill see if i have a few pictures, but its winter up in MN and my boat is flipped and motorless, so i wont be able to take more pics...
