14' Semi-V North West Fishing Machine

Well, sad news. I sold her last week. It was tough, but I have a 16' welded aluminum centre console sitting in the driveway waiting to get rigged up. Here are some pics of her before she went to her new owner. I'll post some pics of the new one once it's rigged.

Thank you. The boat isn't very pretty anymore after 2 seasons of hard use, but she still catches fish. Spar urethane hasn't held up too well on the decks or transom, so I am going to re finish them next season I think.

8hp to 9.9hp is there much difference ?

1980's to mid 90's Johnson/Evinrude. Tons of parts available, reliable, cheap to run and simple. I find Evinrude BRP has better parts support than Mercury for older motors.

Now is the best time to come here and slay some salmon. If you are planning a trip up here I can recommend some good guides/spots, as well as other activities not related to fishing.

That would be beautiful BC, Canada. The Vancouver area has it all, lakes, rivers, saltwater... You can pretty much catch salmon 365 days a year here, with the late summer and fall being the best times.

Some more updates - Added a Noco Gen 1 Mini charger with a 110v inlet plug. No more clipping automotive battery charger leads on to my buss bars to charge! This charger will not only save me time, but it's designed to keep the battery healthy. Much better than charging it 2-3 times a season...

    Marine paint question

For what it's worth, I used etching primer on my boat with little success. Zinc chromate is an etching primer but it's formulated to bond to aluminum. From my research, the steps are: 1- Scuff bare metal 2- Wash with white vinegar or some other mild acid 3- Rinse with water and let dry 4-...

Deck coating alternative to spar urethane

The checking took about 3 months of sun exposure to show up. Still haven't re-coated. Fishing is in full swing and I have a few other things I need to do to the boat.

Deck coating alternative to spar urethane

Wow, great job on the floor using lumber instead of plywood. I have looked at a few options - I'll post up on here once I re-coat it.

Deck coating alternative to spar urethane

I think it's the wood that's causing the problem now that I think about it. However, the coating is starting to flake off. I'm just going to re-sand it and put some oil based exterior deck paint I think.

    Tinboats 2014 BIGGEST LOSER Challange

I don't know if this had been posted, but the app "myfitnesspal" is excellent for tracking calories. I use it to monitor nutrition for my weightlifting program, and it's great. It's a bit more work to measure your food, but monitoring caloric intake is the most efficient way to lose weight...

Deck coating alternative to spar urethane

Fiberglass and epoxy seems like it would be just as costly as using a UV resistant coating like kiwigrip or durabak, and probably more work since I would have to remove the decks to properly apply the glass. I keep it covered as much as I can, but UV exposure is ultimately inevitable in the...

Deck coating alternative to spar urethane

I completed my tinboat project just about a year ago, and I have had some issues with the products I used. I stained my decks (exterior grade ply) with some oil based stain and then coated with 4+ coats of spar urethane. The last coat I applied with a non slip additive mixed in. It worked...

14' Semi-V North West Fishing Machine

Haven't been here in a while! Some updates: Took the boat out probably 30-40 times this summer/fall and caught a few dozen salmon. The boat fishes great with 2 people. Hit a rock underwater on the river at full throttle (river visibility is low and the depth/structure changes every year)...

the primer might be leaking air and sucking it into the bowl of the carb. I would start by rebuilding/replacing the primer assy.

I've been slacking on the updates but the boat has logged some decent time on the water so far. I finished the paint, and built a custom river anchor and mount/roller on the front. I use about a 25lb anchor with 15' of 5/16" chain to hold the boat in faster current. The boat runs awesome...
