I got this lil boat through a friend for free, couldn't pass it up. I've been wanting a tin boat for awhile now and nothing has worked out. I've got my eyes on an 18' flat bottom now and I'm hopping I can fix up this 14'er and sell it to help fund the other one. I'd like to paint it and add a floor and casting deck up front....sorry I haven't got any pics yet but I will soon... I do have a couple questions, I know that treated wood is a no no so what are y'all sealing regular wood with? I did alot of painting on my pontoon I restored but none of it was in the water, so what's the process y'all use with getting the paint to stick?
Thanks Ryan

depends what your starting with, are you gonna be painting bare aluminum? if so a self etching primer is what id use. i used regular primer in a can over the old paint( i ruffed it up a bit with some med-fine sandpaper) on my boat then used a airless to spray the paint and it worked fine for me...

Thanks, ill most likely take it all the way down to aluminum depending on how hard the original paint is to get off! I'm working on it now I'm just in for a break because it's hot in Houston today.

I seen a few bad spots on the bottom

There's about a foot long strip in the keel that's split

I can't weld myself but I've got a few of family members who can so fixing these spots shouldn't be a problem!

Family is always good when you need help.....I would strip everything down just to make sure there is not something hiding under the paint....then weld all the damage. Put some new rivets where needed and go from there. Make sure you return the favor to those that help ya. :WELCOME:

Thanks for the reply and the welcome, I've been sanding washing and scrapeing most of the day and I'm beat, but I've made good progress on taking it to the aluminum. Here's some pics from today

Here's grandpaw pressure washing
