Yes, that engine has points but it stops there. The early 9.9-15 had a "bastard" ignition that was used until the "Magflash" or CD ignition came later. It was about half of a CD system and 100% problematic. There was also an update on the cylinder head on the 1974 engine that helped idle quality pretty noticeably.
