1988 Mercury 4hp tell tale and other problem....?

Hey guys, just recently bought an old jon boat that came with a 1988 4hp japanese mercury motor. The only thing is that it doesn't pee. I started it up in a bucket of water and it starts up on the 1st pull, but I looked for the streaming water and saw none so I shut it off. I can't even find where the water is suppose to be coming from. I don't have the manual and can't even find a manual for it. Any suggestions would be great. I can post some pics of all parts of the motor to show you what it looks like.

Should I even keep the motor? It looks really good (outside and in) and starts on the second pull, but it does not idle well (dies) and it is not peeing. I have worked on motorcycle motors and what not, but am not familiar with outboards. What do you think I should do? Pretty much got the motor for $200.

First off Welcome aboard. =D>

Sounds like the carb needs to be cleaned & a new impeller also.For $200 sounds like a good deal.Don't run it too long & get it hot not pumping water.Carbs are straight forward as is changing the impeller.Go to iBoats.com & look up your motor in the parts.You should be able to see where the pee hole hose is.

Thank you, I hope to post up some more as I just recently got the Jon Boat, trailer, and motor for a good deal. The jon boat leaks a little, but I have yet to be in one that didn't, all were old, lol.

I will take a look at that link. Do you think the 4hp will push the 1432 jon boat along just fine? I only started it up for maybe 10-15 seconds at a time while the lower unit was in a bucket of water to see if it peed, and it didn't so I shut it off.

Just tried to look up the motor in parts, but could not find where the pee hole shoots from... lol. All the exploded views are seperated and I am having a hard time trying to figure out what goes where.
