1990 Sears Jon Boat Flooring Project

I’m completely redoing my 1990 sears Jon boat from the bones all the way up. I’m trying to make this as light as possible.

What would be the downside of applying EVA foam directly to the hull?

This way the floor channels are still fully open but I am able to remove the plywood and additional supporting foam. Anyone see a downside to doing it this way? Foam would be one large peice between the ribs in the red section of the picture below.

And no I didn’t cut the hole in the bench seat. I bought the boat that way.

Making the foam stick might be a challenge, not sure what EVA foam is for sure. What are you trying to achieve ??

I”m trying to achive the lightest decking possible. Don’t want to have a subfloor if I can avoid it.

Eva flooring I’m looking at is either Seadec or Hydroturf.

Try looking at RaceDeck garage flooring. Small 1 ft. x 1 ft. ABS plastic that's interlocked together that can be cut to size. That's what I used on my boat that looks a lot like yours. It can be picked up and removed easily and looks good. That flooring will fit between the ribs and gives a smooth bottom. Also allows for quick drying of the interior when your done playing.
