IRI 12-6 / 12-7
Jimmy came down and we hit IRI around 9pm . Now one around but 1 truck so we hit the rail . We fished for about an hour using 4" & 5" Swimbaits , Bombers , Windcheaters and even 2.5" Fin"S" and small twisters without a bite ..
Drew pulls up and joins us so I switch to a 6" PM Swimbait and get hammered 3 times and lose a fish .. Next cast I land this guy
I sat back and let Jimmy and Drew have at it but now after thinking about it I and the way the bigger fish have been "all togerther" I should have made a few more cast immediately .
Drew and Jimmy dont get a single bite and when I grab a rock I too dont get another bite .
They wanted to head out back so I agreed (although I know it hasnt been producing many fish at all)
I hooked up on about my 7 casts or so and it was a nice heavy fish and very close to shore but after a brief battle the fish won and popped off . No fish popping at all so I stayed and watched until they agreed it was dead . Drew called it a night and Jimmy and i hit the rail again .... OR should I say I hit the rail again We had periods of rain and the wind kept switching directions and speed but mostly it was a 10 to 20 MPH NW wind with periods of rain .
Jimmy kept the car running and spent quite awhile in there keeping warm . Seems he could not keep warm .
I on the other hand kept at it and landed 3 more schoolies on a 4" PM so I went and made sure he saw me and knew that some fish were biting . Jimmy came back and tried but No more fish .. He returned to the car . I kept at it with a short break here and there to rest my aching back . No more stripers but Shad had moved into the area so I get Jimmy again . I knew this was the only chance for him to shake the skunk with conditions like this . Jimmy made a few csats and finally landed a Shad ..
We had quite a few nice fish outside our casting range and all on top .. I tried all my heavy plugs and even a few Sub Surface poppers without a bite . We even tried longlining to them but again no bites .
The winds and rain picked up around 5am so Jimmy says he ready if I am .. I hate to see guys sit in their vehichles because of the cold or rain so I gave in also .
We had plans to hit the Hot Ditch in VA but the rain and predicted snow kept us close and in the morning we were supposed to hit some freshwater spots but the winds increased at sun up to over 40 MPH . This weekened was over for me and Jimmy also went back to PA .
Oh well no skunk atleast
PS . BGB is dead until the tides get right .. Might still have one more shot back there right before the "full moon"
Also remember to wear LAYERS and stay warm and if you get cold PLEASE go to your vehichle and get warm . Its frostbite time for sure .
IRI 12-8 / 12-9-2008
I got to IRI at about 10pm and found wannafishallday all by his self .. not another person around . I noticed the tide was super low so I gave some quick advice and lent him my rod rigged with a 4" PM Bunker . I headed out back to look for Swimbaits . I got 4 Swimbaits but broke the hook on a Storm and the other 3 had busted points .. seems like the very point of the hooks on all Swimbaits goes first .
I head back out front to looked for a striped one and join wfad .
Fished for about 2 hours with 1 hookup and 3 bites but landed ZERO . I treid all the normal Swimbaits and Plugs and finally settled on the 6" PM Bunker . Finally on my 3rd cast I hook up .. A 26" and healthy Striper
Yul and Chump pull up just as the camera snaps off a flash . Neither one broght a rod for Stripers and both wanted to rest up for the Tog trip in the morning on the Dirtman . Wfad and I fished for about another hour without a fish and he called it quits so he could grab a bite and some sleep .
About 20 minutes after he left what I though were Shad turned out to be stripers .. I tossed small Fin"S" and Twisters with no bites for a hour solid and finally went with a 4" PM Mullet and began to pick at them ..
With every fish the water came alive with random pops everywhere and nowhere in particular .. The tide was finally moving and some rips had thankfully made their presence known ..
I missed quite a few and lost a few hook ups but landed about 6 total with this being the biggest at 26.5"
Had a nasty wound ..
Tossed the 4" for about 30 minutes without a bite .. It was very fructrating because they were still just a popping .. I switched to a 6" PM and got smacked on the fall on cast #2 and nothing for the next 20 or so minutes so I reach into the bag of tricks and rig up a longline rig with a 1.5 ounce inline sinker and a Chartruese Fly Thats was the ticket for the suface poppers ..
Tried adding a White worm and it flew off on the 4th cast and I hook up on that cast (minus the worm) ..
Tried adding a 4" White Riverside Twister and again on the 4th cast it flew off and bingo I get another with no plastic ..
I see the pattern so I go with the flow and go with no plastic . I got 4 more before losing the rig .. Gust of wind took my slack over the bulkhead .
Decided it looked like the fishiest time of the morning ..
I started with a 4" PM Bunker and first cast I get hit and land this alien looking creature ..
Stayed with the 4" PM for about 20 minutes when it to was sacraficed to the Fish Gods .. I rerig with a 6" PM and fish until the sun was up without a bite .. Surface action died off with the sun . Some longliners showed up and when the 2nd fish was landed I put the Swimbaits up and went with a few flies on a longline rig .. I fished until 7:30am without a bite and saw no other fish landed among the 8 guys longlining .
Stopped at The Old Inlet and met up with the DF Crew .. fingerandclaws , chump , wannafishallday and his brother , fishforever , dirtman and his friend . We talked shop until they were ready to to go board the Dirtman for what looks like a GREAT day of Togging
Wished them all good luck and headed home at about 8:30am .
Broadkill 12-9-2008
Hit the Broadkill at noon . I caught a nice 10" Crappie on my first cast and thought it was going to be great with the overcast and wind but the winds grew and grew to 25+MPH and gusts to over 35 MPH . I didnt get another bite until oldmanofthesea showed up .. He made about 4 or 5 casts with Grass Shrimp and it seemed to me that it turned the fish on .
Next fish was a Gill ..
Then another ..
A Gill fest it was for about an hour then Mr Crappie made an appearance .
Lure choice was ..
Gills loved it and the Crappie also were finding it appealing ..
Mr Tiny LMB also came to play
The Gills died off and the Crappie kept playing and grew in size
This was the 4th Tiny LMB ..
The Crappie started to bite very good but my time had run out so I played the "Last Cast" Game for about 20 minutes and the bite picked up .. It was hard to leave but After Mr. Ned came out I figured it was a great time to call it a day ..
Saw this sticking of a log and used my rod to grab it
Took a few Structure shots and was home at 2:20pm ..
Not bad for 2.25 hours
Tide was real low when I got there and kept going out when I left .
Fished the Fin"S" 20" below a casting bobber .
Take a close look at the 3 pontoon boats .. The front of them is ON THE ROCKS .. The one closest to the Big boat wasnt tied up good and was beating against the other pontoon boat . I imagine the fronts are completely out of the water by now as the tide still had a ways to go according to my guess on low tide .
What a shame .
