Looking for a cheap 14ft utility boat. Wife likes the price and the kid friendly floor and high sides. The boat almost sems perfect for our family. HOWEVER, I know its a converted closed bow hull. It appears very well done. The owner says he did the conversion 12 years ago and is selling so he can move up to a 18ft boat.

Is there any major concerns I should have with a conversion like this?

oh yea, for $2100 total I can have the motor as well, he was getting more hits selling seperately.

$2100 seems really high, although I'm not familiar with Springbok or theprices in your area. Still, seems almost double the price in my area for a v-hull boat.

1980 20hp Johnson. Most other 14ft utility boats with any motor are listed for $2800 to $3000. Only a few very tired boats are under $2000.

I am just unsure about the structural part of a closed bow boat and what happens when its cut open like a bowrider.

With that engine it seems like a fair price - go look at the boat and see how well done the construction is. Ask for a test drive - always test drive anything you before you buy. Looking at a boat and riding in it are two different things

Looks nice and deep. I like it. I second, take it for a test drive. The motor won't be a speed demon on a boat that size, but should do fine for taking the family fishing. Also, look for soft spots in the floor/transom and check for leaks.

Being you are up north with the short boating season the boat and motor probably have very few hours on them. If the motor has good compression and the boat doesn't leak and prices are what you say it sounds ok.

lol, murpfys law. 3 months the boats been posted for sale. I go see it, take the night to check the safety of modded boats. He sold the motor. Wants 1500 for the boat and trailer. Oh well, many more boats to wait for. Should be lots in nSept nearer the end of boating season.
