I'm going to get a bilge pump for my tin and was wondering what other guys are using. Also, what is better, automatic or manual? Do you need to install a switch for all bilge pumps, or can yuo just attach an automatic pump directly to your battery?

I'm using an Attwood 500gph and added a float switch parallelled with the manual momentary button because usually when going up on plane I have too much to do to hold the bilge button in. The float only kicks on if I get over 2" in the rear, the water rests in the front on the drift so it all goes to the back as I take off. I also figure if I hole the hull I'll be too busy to deal with the bilge pump. I demanded a momentary because I didn't want to burn up the pump motor again.

I too have an auto on float switch, and a manual on switch, both on their own fuses.

I rarely use either switch, in fact, now that I think about it, I dont recall teh float switch ever turning on the pump. The one or two times I used the manual it was on for like 2 seconds.

I believe my pump is a Mayfair, its yellow with a black base. I think.

Stopped by Canadian Tire last night on my way home from work and found a "SeaSense" 800 GPH pump for $30. Got the matching plumbnig kit for $15. I just ordered a marine grade 4 switch panel from Cabelas. I will be needing some info later on how to wire it all up!
