What is the best (and economical) type of under coating / paint for aluminum hull boats?

Also, I have heard some mention of Steel Flex a few times, where can I find this? I have tried searching it but cam up with nothing?

Thanks.

Steel Flex is made my Fasco... you can check it out here and even buy direct from them I think...

As far as paint - I would recommend using either Brightside Interlux or Pettit Easy Poxy as a topside paint if you are wanting a glossy finish.
If you're looking for a dull or flat finish, check out Parker Duck Boat Paint... that stuff lasts for years.

As far as primer, depending on the shape of your current paint job, you might just be able to scratch it up pretty good and sand it smooth (not all the way to the aluminum) and use a self etching primer or primer called zinc chromate. It will bond itself to the aluminum or paint chemically and will serve you for years to come.
