boat type identification numbers

I guess I have been out of the loop for way too long ....

I keep seeing folks here refer to their boat with specific numbers
like .... 1436 or 1452 or 3415 etc ...
what do these numbers mean ?
At first, I thought it was the manufacture's model number .... I just don't know.
LOL just trying to keep up with the times.
 
1448 = 14' long, 48" wide at the floor.

Take a peek at some of the aluminum boat sites like G3 and you'll see what sizes are most common today.
