Cavitation Plate Height

Can Y'all tell me where should the cavitation plate (or planing fin on the motor shaft) should be in relation to the bottom of the boat. I've seen recommendations that say at the water line (in line with the bottom of the boat), and others that say one to two inches below the bottom of the boat. I had a lot of spray when I took this boat out for the first time.

It should be anywhere from level to 1 inch below but for BEST results its all trial and error

"A lot of spray" would probably say that you have it too low, unless another device (transducer, etc.) is causing the issue. Rich

It was about 3 inches below before. I'll let you know how one inch works as soon as it warms up a bit.

How are you raising the motor 3"? Will it be safely mounted to the transom?
If your using a jack plate with some set back you can raise the motor a few inches above the bottom of the boat.
