So I'm getting ready to order a piano hinge to add a rear casting deck to my boat. Was going to go with an aluminum one from Aircraft Spruce in 2" width x .051" thickness.

https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/mepages/pianohinge.php

But I found some continous hinges from Fastenal that I'm thinking are the same as a piano hinge. Is that right?

I have a Fastenal local as well as a buddy that works there. So if I can get my hinges from Fastenal rather than ordering them offline, it would be preferred. Just not sure if I'm looking at the same thing here.

wondering the same thing myself - they seem the same to me but that's just based on a visual comparison - i'd hate to find that one had greater load bearing rating vs the other...

another source is McMaster. when i was doing my project, I ordered aluminum continuous hinge from them and paid way less than aircraftspruce (like 1/2 the cost). we don't have a fastenall nearby so i didn't look into them.

Yeah - the little onesie twosie costs of fitting and finishing everything add up quickly...

yes, they are the same critter.
I have bought many in BRASS, ALUMINUM and STAINLESS ....
most common length is 48" when ordering but you can find basic sizes as well.
easy to cut to size with the ordinary hacksaw or 4" grinder cut-off wheels. IN A VISE to hold it firm.
if you want countersunk or recessed screw holes, you may have to do that yourself.
Be sure to to remember to use brass or stainless screws !!!

Thanks, just wanted to confirm they are the same thing. My buddy has one on order for me along with an 8' piece of 1" square tube that I need to reinforce my bow deck seat base. Together they'll be less than $20. Nice having a friend at Fastenal. Can't beat that price!!!
