Date of Manufacture for Honda outboards

Why does Honda hide their date of manufacture? It is not anywhere on my 15hp. Can't find anywhere on their web site either. Anybody got any internet site tricks that could tell me?

Is there not a set of numbers somewhere on the front of your lower unit (transom side)? The serial number should include the date of manufacture.

There is a serial #, does not reference dates.

It may be like a VIN # on an automobile and not be readily recognizeable, but I bet the date is coded in there somehow.
