So I did a little test carpet fitting install today on the hatch on my deck/platform...

Should I attempt a re-cut and fill this gap... or "f" this gap and just move on...

My perfectionist side says "re-cut", my "lets just get on with this" side says ...well just that.

Just looking for thoughts and or opinions...

thx

Ever thought of just cutting a strip of carpet and stapling it to the side of the door to fill the gap? Then just carpet normal over it.

Funny you say that... I did actually... but I wasn't sure how that would effect any of the stability of staying in place...

Obviously the hatch wont be getting into, too often, but maybe I could staple that strip in place... and slather it with some carpet glue or contact cement?

Yeah if it bothers you that much just build it up with some type of material under the carpet. A strip of carpet, foam, neoprene, plastic, etc.

I would probably cut a new hatch. Most likely easier than trying to shim it out. If you don't have a wood for the new hatch shim it somehow.

cut a piece of wooden shim or make a piece of wood the right taper, and attach it to the side with contact cement. Then carpet. Done, and less wasteful than trashing the door.

if you're like me,it'll bug the hell out of you every time you look at it. re cut it and be happy with a job well done.you spent all that time making it how you want it,don't half ass it now :D
