TOILET OUT OF ORDER. PLEASE USE FLOOR BELOW.

Ever been overseas? Heard about some places but can't confirm any but Italy. Tall urinals (looked like urinals at least) with a hole in the bottom when you "did both". Had to squat over the opening to deficate (and try not to lean against the sides). Never saw any toilet paper either. I pooped on the ship thank you.

Lol, yep, the old "bomb sites" as we called 'em. Long story made short:
1973, drydocked in Toulon, France. Had to use the Heads (bomb sites) located off the ship. Material needed: 1 metal folding chair; Steam valve lagging pad (for cushioning). Take torch, cut hole in metal chair seat, line the edges of the hole with the pad, fold up, tuck under arm, walk over to bomb site and erect the makeshift "toilet". Oh yeah, take American toilet paper with you. Finally, listen to the French people laughing at the crazy Americans. They were just jealous because they didn't think of it

1980 in Singapore. I was living in a company rental house and there was one of those holes in the floor off the kitchen for the servants. The toilets in the rest of the house were western style thrones.

Another thing we had to adjust to were cold showers. No running hot water, but one bathroom had it's own 10 gallon hot water heater on the wall that you could light and have a hot shower in about 45 minutes. It was so much hassle that I only had one hot shower in 6 months.
